£5 Notes - Are they being phased out?

Yet again I ended up with a pocket full of change becasue the cashier had no £5 notes. Are they in short supply? Are they beng phased ut by stealth?

Have the Bank of England stopped printing them? If so I must of missed the announcement.

I cannot remember the last time I saw a "new", good condition £5 note. Anyone else seen one latlt?

Most fivers are dog eared, wiped in st, sat on, washed in the machine piles of crap.

i read once, not sure where, but the shelf life for a five pound note in comparison is about 4 times less than a 20. Now i can't remember if this was due to general wear and tear or produced that way on purpose for some reason.

No way - I hate a pocket full of change. Give me notes any day.

£100 pound notes are a bad idea too. People would be awkward about accepting them, plus it's nice to get more than one piece of paper out of a trip to the cash machine!

All down to quantitative easing, prices rising, print more usable money, £5 to be phased out, soon it be be 20's,50's 100's and 1000's pound notes printed only

think there's just a problem getting them into circulation. Banks don't really want to put them in cash machines, as they only have space for a certain number of notes, and filling it up with fivers means it's likely to run out. That's why you get lots of £20's in them.

About 2 months ago the Barclays in Bangor was giving out brand new £5 notes.

Never, ever had anyone inspect a £50 with more distrust than any other note. You sure it's not just the way you look/dress?

Yes, it was serious

You can still spend a £1000 bill if you can find one so i don't see why £100 note is so risky.
