Milan/Bergamo this weekend - hotel in Milan or near lakes?
Discussion
Right Milan experts (sleep envy)
Flights booked for tomorrow to fly to Bergamo.
Best to stay in a town near one of the lakes and travel into Milan for the obligatory 'be bored while wife looks at clothes' day - or stay in Milan and travel out for 'much nicer day eating Italian food looking at a Lkae' day.

Ryanair
I visited Bergamo a few weeks ago (also via Ryanair). It looked an amazing place, and is really close the foothills and lakes. The station is very central (to the new town).
Sadly I was only there for 24 hours, didn't get a chance to see much.
Tell me about it.

I don't even want to go - anywhere. I am sick of the whole 'must spend money to enjoy life' bulls

But it is 32 degrees and probably the same price as driving down to Brightom for the weekend.
Just need place to stay now.
Guys
Thanks for all the advice. It was a brilliant weekend away.
Ryanair, surprisingly, were brillinat.
Currently doing a deal for flights booked before midnight for £8 each way INCLUDING TAXES, so get yourselves off to Lake Como!
Flight was 2 hrs.
Shuttel bus from airport to Bergamo was 15 minutes and you can either get a 3 day bus ticket for 5 euro or singel trip for 1.70.
Car hire for 2 days isn't necessary - unless you want to go off the beaten track - which we will do.
We stayed at the Mercure in Bergamo - about 300m from the main Train station. It was pretty decent. Trains were regular and on time - we got train to Varenna from Bergamo both Saturday and Sunday. Takes about 1hr 10 minutes. Cost 4.20 euros each one way.
Ferry to Bellagio from Varenna - 7.40 euros return.
Lots of restaurants in Varenna and Bellagio. Not that pricey considering you are sat overlooking Lake Como. 4 euro for a beer/glass of Prosecco. 6 euro for a G&T at the Hotel Du Lac, Varenna. Most places meal was 30-45 euro for a light lunch for two (pasta/pizza werw about 8-9 euro, grilled fish, steak etc about 15 euro).
Could have hired a scooter for two days from Bergamo for 70 euro (will do next time).
Boat hire on the lake is plentiful - 140 euro/hr for decent runabout.
It was 32 degrees all weekend. A truly brilliant, brilliant place.
