Go to www.sandhurstautoprint.co.uk click on legislation and look under imported vehicles . If im correct the Monaro's and VXR's have Aussie type approval , so we should be ok . I think the full size plates not only look s*** but are a little dangerous too the way they bend . Happy reading .

I don't think they get into UK on Aussie Type Approval. However, they don't have whole EC Type Approval. Many seem to feel this makes it ok. They often keep a printout of the regs in the glovebox.

My understanding is that if the vehicle does not have full UK Type Approval AND the recess is too small/wrong shape for a standard number plate then you can fit a smaller one. Mine has a small one but with the lettering conforming to the alternative specs and I've never had any trouble.

I guess by definition it's an import if it doesn't have type approval.

According to my next door neighbour who is traffic police, and a very nice bloke, it's not the size of the number plate that is the issue, it's the size of the lettering, the fine is going / has gone up to £60, the reason for this is that the police have spent a huge amount of money on the ANPR system and if this won't read your number plate you will get.............erm, was going to put pulled/tugged but just seems rude !!!! you will get a ticket. My view is that as long as my number plate can be read by the ANPR the better chance the police will have if, god forbide, it ever got nicked, so I don't care how big my number plate is or how it looks.

Standard lettering is 79mm and requires 11mm top and bottom. Doesn't add up to 90mm.

Its probably 64mm which is the normal text size for an import plate I believe.
