Anyone know any good (free) online memory tests? I've discovered that I'm crap at remembering strings of letters/numbers, so am looking for something to help improve it!

Anyone know of one?

I'm really crap at remembering strings of numbers/letters especially if they are mixed. I think it might even be a mild form of dyslexia, although I have no problems with spelling.

That's exactly the sort of thing I'm looking to improve on!

Anyone know of a decent online brain trainer type thing?

Could be dyscalculia, but I would say I'm bloody good at maths in general, so if it is that it's very mild.

I spent years working for an insurance company. 10-digit policy numbers and never remembered any - including my own.

You could always practice on Pi.... wink

I have a crap memory but I can remember passwords and numbers quite well. It's something you can train yourself to do, I've developed it simply from dealing with a lot of numbers at work. I have about 8 login/ passwords for various systems as well.

Anything up to about 8 digits I can memorise after scanning for a few seconds. I also have my debit card number, date and security number memorised which is quite handy when buying things online when I can't be arsed getting my wallet out.

Well, couldn't find one so knocked one up in php/javascript:

http://www.pilotslogonline.com/memorytest.php?tota...

I'm so crap at it though!

It can be made easier by specifying smaller strings like betwee 3 and 5:

http://www.pilotslogonline.com/memorytest.php?tota...

min and max specify the mimumim and maximum lengths for the strings, total is the number you get tested on smile

Discalcula.
For years I thought I had discalcula. Turns out I'm just a bit thick.

I've probably got that. I'm absolutely useless at mental arithmatic and remembering numbers but other form of maths that don't require me to manipulate numbers in my head I'm absolutely fine with.

Couldn't you just make up a string to remember each day?

This is the weird thing with it, if I really try and remember things and learn them I have no problem.

But if I read a number quickly and then have to recall it a few seconds later that's when the problem arises. Serial numbers for software are a prime example if I sat down and learnt lkj9k-lpz56-0a80m-sa4qe-ka2jd I could remember it for as long as needed, months even.

But if I simply read lkj9k then looked away from it, literally 10 seconds later I would have probably forgotten it. In other words I really have to concentrate and learn, committing it to long term memory, rather than just quickly recalling things from short term.

So you can't say it while reading it, then turn away and repeat it?

Just done a quick experiment on that.
If I read it out-loud like a child who's just learnt to read, I can recall it. Otherwise not unless I really concentrate on it.

It's not really a major problem though, I just make sure I can see what I'm having to type/use.
