Assuming there's a name for everything in the English language, what's the proper name for the throwaway dark bit in a banana? You know, the bit inside that you don't eat.

I've tried Googling and Wikipedia but to no avail but did find out that a banana has 3 segments and that the tiny black dots are not in fact tarantula eggs.

Which bit do you throw away? I call it the skin. The rest gets munched.

Do you mean the bit of your banana that's been bruised?

They're referred to as seeds.

He means the bit at the very bottom inside that looks like an inside-out tummy button...

Eewww I just tried to get an image on the inside of a banana but had the Google safe search off.

When you peel a banana and discard the skin, you're left with the banana, sometimes a few strings and a furry badger's nose on one end which some freaks like me don't eat.

What's the technical name for the badger's nose?

No seeds are the 'tarantula eggs'.

The stalky bit at the bottom of the banana. If you're careful it you can pull the flesh off it and it remains attached to the skin.

If you're not then when you're munching through delicious soft banana you suddenly bite on a hard, undefined "thing" and it gives me the boke.

I liken it to how I imagine one of those eggs with chick foetus would be.

I think it's the bit right at the bottom, often with a tiny spike like thingy coming up from the skin bit

D'oh just googled 'banana anatomy' and some other sad git has asked the question before.

“fibrovascular bundles” apparently.

Either way, I'm not eating one.
