Assuming there's a name for everything in the English language, what's the proper name for the throwaway dark bit in a banana? You know, the bit inside that you don't eat.
I've tried Googling and Wikipedia but to no avail but did find out that a banana has 3 segments and that the tiny black dots are not in fact tarantula eggs.

They're referred to as seeds.I've tried Googling and Wikipedia but to no avail but did find out that a banana has 3 segments and that the tiny black dots are not in fact tarantula eggs.
Eewww I just tried to get an image on the inside of a banana but had the Google safe search off.
When you peel a banana and discard the skin, you're left with the banana, sometimes a few strings and a furry badger's nose on one end which some freaks like me don't eat.
What's the technical name for the badger's nose?

The stalky bit at the bottom of the banana. If you're careful it you can pull the flesh off it and it remains attached to the skin.
If you're not then when you're munching through delicious soft banana you suddenly bite on a hard, undefined "thing" and it gives me the boke.
I liken it to how I imagine one of those eggs with chick foetus would be.
