XType ARB D bush changing

Anybody done it?
I have a clunking from the front which has been diagnosed as worn ARB D bushes and I can see play in them so I don't doubt the diagnosis
I got a Dealer quote today while I was there
£300+VAT +parts
Made me shake my head with dismay when I asked the price of the parts and he hadn't even asked.
If their mechanics are half as dim witted as their sales guy they aren't getting anywhere near my car.
Does the front subframe really have to be dropped? it looks tight admittedly but not impossible for a home mechanic.
