Any Leeds area specialist whisky shops?
Discussion
I was hoping to be able to take a whisky fan to a bit of a specialist to pick a present next week, we generally go up to the Watershed Mill in Settle because they have a chap there and he lets you sample stuff but we'll be in Leeds and the money saved on fuel can go towards a nicer bottle.
Are there any specialist shops in the area that you can recommend?
I've posted this up in food and drink as well but wanted to cover the local angle too if possible

Maybe we'll end up in Costco but if you have any ideas please let me know, I had a bit of a Google but didn't come up with anything obvious other than a place at the other side of York.
There are two that I know of at York. The one I guess you will have found on the web is at Stammy Bridge inside the DIY shop. I have been once and its OK. I have heard of the Settle shop and I would say Settle is better (without having been).
There is another shop - in York centre - in the Coppergate centre, which is part of a small chain.
However, if you want to consider the York area have the heard of 'The Whisky Lounge'. Eddie's site is having trouble at the present but he has got the events listing back up. York Whisky Festival is Saturday 19 September and is amazing value at £15 (but don't tell Eddie). Wall to wall tastings and a chance to buy. Tickets from York Food Festival. I have just noted Eddie has planned an India vs Scotland tasting for October. There is a specialist India session at the York Festival. Eddie also sells a few bottles mail order, or collection at an event.

Don't know if Asda are still doing it but a couple of weeks ago they had Laphroaig Cask Strength at about £28 instead of £40. Bargain - and winner of the drams on offer at York in July's Ireland vs Scotland tasting. If you want something with real punch its a dram worth buying (I mostly buy complex Islay malts so confess a degree of bias).
