eyup!

i am meeting a girl in york on saturday evening for a date. i haven't any experience of eating/drinking in the city so i am clueless as where to take her. she lives there, but has said its my perogative as the bloke to choose! [wimmins!].

just looking for somewhere relaxed/casual with a bit of ambience, decent booze, and no chavs! somewhere that serves snacks/nibbles as well as i think she might be coming straight from work.

much obliged smile

Biltmore's good for a drink, but hear nothing but bad things about the food.

Kennedys is good for a beer and there's Oscars which is pretty good as well fairly close to both the above.

Living room's good for food and drinks and righ next to the river or if italian's your thing Piccolino just opposite is really good as well.

Akbhars is pretty much the best curry around, if not bothered about the chilli breath!

Yep, all of these are cracking suggestions, my particular favourite being oscars (i feel it was better before the relocation though!). If you want to stay away from the chavs make sure you stay on that side of the river and under no circumstance venture down micklegate! YUK!

Oops, a bit late!!!

Hackness Grange Hotel's quite good (or was the last time I was there), but it's probably too close to Scarborough for you.

If we are in the Hackness Area - my neck of the woods - the better choice around the corner is the Everley - but book now. Lovely views across the valley from the gardens and restaurant area - unless its already full in which case you will be in the bar. And there are no complaints about the food. Steve and Heather have built a solid reputation over the last couple of years.

The Providence at Yedingham seems to be ok based on comments but I haven't been for a while.

Seems strange to say - if you are heading coast way is the natural selection actually a fish restaurant - and we are not talking chippy.

was thinking along the lines of pubs like the blacksmiths really. trip to the coast, being daft, fish&chips on the beach, then a few jars to prolong having to take her back home smile
