I've had recent discussions over the phone with my supplying dealer (Vines of Redhill) about a small loss of lacquer on the front of my 07 535D.

My first opportunity to show them the damage was last night at about 4pm and I've had a call an hour or so ago confirming BMW will pay to have the bumper re-sprayed under the warranty - result!

No arguments or messing about - it could be due to stone chips as the car has now done over 50,000 miles, but they're happy it's not and I'm happy with the result and service from the dealer.

On the down side, I asked how much to have the bonnet sprayed at the same time so the car looks nice and stone chip free again and have been quoted £800 + VAT redfaceuch:

I think that's a bit steep but they are digging their heels in currently - any thoughts?

I'd see if a detailer could do on the bonnet front - depending on the damage.

There was a product a few were using on Detailing World called Dr Colourchip IIRC which gave good results for the price.

I had the bonnet of my Z4 resprayed after a lorry let loose some gravel, chipping it in lots of places. Over £1k a few years back.

It's a bit sad that a dealer doing the minimum they should do (sorting a warranty claim - they make lots money out of these by the way) is classed as "good" service. Shows how bad some dealers are.

That may be true but it could have easily been a case of wear and tear TBH and I was waiting for a rejection - the fact is the dealer appeared to be on the customers side for a change!

They've now come back to me with an offer of £780 all in to do the bonnet and blend into the front wings which I'm happy with.

£780 does sound suprisingly extortionate.

What would you expect to be the going rate?

I would probbably pay £400 tops from an outstandingly good bodyshop, half that from a dubious one.
