Should I be surprised?

Had to put two new rear tyres on the Chim, so bought some from 'blackcircles', who arranged for a mobile tyre fitter to come out. The fitter seemed pretty competent and so I left him to it 'Any problems and I'll come and ask you Sir'. After he left I thought I'd check the tyre pressure to see what he had put in. Should I have been surprsied to see 42 lbs. sq/inch Almost double what is recommended

He's obviously mistaken your chim for a dumper truck, did you have the badge covered at the time ??

I took mine to Elites in Rainham for new tyres and the tyre pressures it came out with were totally wrong.

Apparently, it's not uncommon for tyre fitters to not bother checking.

Might be worth an email to Blackcircles to let them know. Obviously the fitters are subbys not employees, but hopefully they'll pass on the warning.

I ordered some from mytyres to be delivered to Power. A week later, I recieved a call from Dom to say that no tyres had arrived.

A quick call to the call centre, somewhere in Asia, to find that they'd be going out in a weeks time. I subsequently cancelled them.

Ordered with Blackcircles on Thursday & arrived next day.

About to run outside & see what pressure Power have put in them

You should have seen the look on the face of the teenage tyrefitter that fitted my Mickey Thompsons when i said i wanted 12psi in them.
I ended up dropping them to 10 at the track

I always ensure that the tyre fitter knows the pressures and the bolt torque before I they commence work, and generaly then I slip in to the works area as wheels are being refitted (acts as a reminder for them to do it right ) and have freindly chat with them....

they always remember me, the car, how to get in and out of it.........

I once got a set of new tyres for my old Chim (10 years ago!) at a place in the South East famous for its tyres, service etc...
On the way home the car was all over the place - stopped at a petrol station to check pressures. 40 something all round !

I suppose TVR tyre pressures would not be in whatever database they might use, but 30 odd psi would be better stab in the dark than 40 - perhaps 40psi is the pressure setting when fitting the tyres to ensure the seal is good

They could just ask/tell you before you drive away of course.....

the mobile fitter I always use (40+yr exp.) sets the initial pressures at around 40psi and advises to leave them for a short while (usually overnight) to seat the bead on the rim properly, then reset the pressures when the tyres are cold.

I would never drive on newly fitted tyres until I'd checked the pressures anyway (which is one of the reasons why I stopped using the cheapo fitting places)

I had thought that it might have been something like this and if so he should have let me know. He seemed like he knew what he was doing and came from one of the areas biggest tyre fitters. 42 just seems like a really odd amount to put in.

Must admit my only experience of mobile fitting (also on a TVR) was with E-Tyres and they were excellent - very knowledgable and accomodating.
