Is there anything in this to protect/help shine? I think I saw a demo video taken at Jay Leno's garage showing that it builds up and makes water run off.

Just used it to remove a light coating of dust and, although I didn;t have time anyway, wasn't sure whether to give it a quick blow over of field glaze/liquid carnuba.

Quick detailer? Dont think it has any wax in it, maybe a sealant of some sort

Meguiars QD has nothing to aid wax protection, all it does is remove dust and add a little shine to the paintwork for a few hours.

ClearKote QD is a much better product and can be used to remove a variety of 'marks' and is safe to use on glass.

That's what I thought. But there was definitely a Meguiars promo video with Jay Leno spraying it onto a bonnet (possiblythrough a stencil) and afterwards it was shedding water.

ETA Just Googled and come up with this quote;

"In the latest video to post on the site, Pennington demonstrates the amazing "hydrophobic" water beading technology in Ultimate Quik Detailer. Unlike traditional mist-and-wipe products, UQD actually repels water, creating fewer, taller water beads. Pennington surprised Leno when he sprayed a panel with water and the Jay Leno's Garage.com logo popped out."

UQD is a sealant type QD, in that it has sealant properties that Last Touch, and other typical QD's don't.

Right; I have a gallon of Meguiars Detailer in the garage. I think it's this stuff, so that's quite useful then.

I shall use it more to dust the cars over when clean.

QD is actually pretty good as a drying aid....it does shed water off of a car, thus making drying time less. It is also an excellent lube for clay....but as a last touch detailing aid or for removing marks, spots, excessive wax overwipe etc...you can buy much better products.

Well I've a gallon to use at the moment, and I've found it works ok at removing excess wax so far.

But...what would you suggest as a better product for when my stock runs out?

I use ClearKote Quickshine as my QD of choice. I am also trying the new Einszett LackFinish Deatiling spray and am a long time user of the Chemical Guys Speed Wipe and also Dodo Juice Red Mist.

For fast drying the Meguiars product is great but as a clay lube, and proper quick detailer it just does not 'cut the mustard' in my experience. It is cheap and does well when watered down...but is not a premier league product.

My cars are too well used to really require premier league stuff, but when I replace products I usually go for the better stuff (price allowing) so thanks for the info.

The car is going up to the PH show in January so before then I will make it look as god as I can; I'll probably see if one of the guys into detailing local to me can lend me and help me out with a porta cable, or equivalent, too to give it a proper base to work on.

Just about to wash the car. The stff I have is Las Touch Detailer.

So not the stuff with the sealer in. But I'll still use it up before I get a replacement.
