What year?

It's usually just a bulb that takes no more than 5 minutes to do. However if the lines of the display are missing & still illuminated... that's a cluster.

A 51 plate.

Odd that the actual numbers are missing lines!

Is that really just a bulb??? fingers tightly crossed! expense wise!!

IIRC this is the norm for E Class of that era. Mrs D's is the same and others I have driven.

There was an Indy garage in Brum that fixed them.
Also go on the Audi/VW forum, there is a guy on there, Dr G, that knows somewhere up north that repairs them at reasonable price.

The blubs are a simple swap. The cluster just pulls out, although it is easier if you have the correct MB tools (basically a piece of wire that hooks behind the cluster so you can yank it out. There are two multiplugs that need removing at the top of the cluster.

If the readouts are missing lines then 90% of the time its the ribbon cables becoming detached. Again an easy fix - the PDF is on MBCLUB.CO.UK somewhere - otherwise email me and I will send it to you
