Since fitting my new head unit i've been purchasing speakers needed to replace stock stuff.

I've got doors and rear sides ready to go in, but not sure what type of speaker is needed for the rear parcel shelf.

I've been to ls1.com and got the strip out instructions and everything seems to indicate the rear parcel shelf speakers are 6.5" subs, but a 6.5" sub seems very hard to come by.

What has anyone who has done the replacement fitted in there ?

TIA

Dean.

Myself and another Monaro owner fitted these, you will need a decent amp to drive them though. I disconnected and removed the factory fitted amp and fitted a 500W Infinity amp.

Did you get them shipped over from the US ?

Is there a seperate factory fit amp just for the subs ? i'm hoping just to fit the upgraded front doors and sides without replace the factory amp.

Thanks

There is a factory fit 40W amp just for the subs, fitted above LH rear wheel arch behind trim in boot.
I got the subs in the UK from http://edaudio.com but link don't seem to work anymore. You will definately need a more powerful amp if you fit any aftermarket subs as the puny 40W amp ain't man enough. If you decide to go for other brands/models make sure they are designed for 'infinate baffle' applications (designed to operate in free air) other types require a ported or closed box.

i have the same Elemental Design subs in my rear deck and i can say they are fantastic speakers. i used to run the factory rear desk subs with upgraded front and rear speakers and all though it sounded ok i noticed a difference in quality comapred to the upgraded front and rears so i replaced them. it was a big job as i had to make my own speaker mounting rings but well worth it.

Vibe do some nice high powered 6.5" speakers however if you are after bass then your better off putting large speakers in the sides as lots of room to fit what ever you want! Take a little lateral thinking to not have sub type speakers on the rear shelf!

Ive done it on mine and it was great although I still have to finish off the wiring.
