veiws on buying a subaru impreza wrx 2l turbo

hi there to all you P.H`s members. Am looking at buying a wrx turbo for about 2k yeah i know its not much of a budget but things are very tight at the moment as i have been laid off from work. when my (very kind+trusting) mate when on holiday he left me with his 2001 wrx 2l turbo for 3weeks and i was very impressed.I've been looking at salons and the wagons in the classic shape as i like the look and these are in budget.i don't know whether to buy an imported 1 or uk model. i have a 10yr old son(mad on subaru`s)and 2 small dogs. the wagon would be more practical i know but i do like the look of the saloon with the sti spoiler on the back but the misses ain't fussed. i don't want to buy a 1 then regret it so can you please give me some advice/tips/and things to look out for. i would much appreciate all your view's on this subject and like to thank you for taking the time to read this.

If cash is a bit tight and you are now unemployed is a several hundred bhp 25mpg rally weapon the right choice of car?

Unless you are awash with spare cash I really advise against buying an Impreza. I bought my WRX about 18 months ago, but I doubt that prices have dropped enough to consider one for two grand. That said, the purchase price is only the first hurdle. Servicing is relatively painless, but how about filling up with fifty quid's worth of V-Power every 270-290 miles? I filed my car up six times last month - £300 in just petrol!

I guess what I'm trying to say is that yes, they are great cars (I have to say that, I'm committed to keeping mine for another 2 years!), but they'll always cost more than you think - and don't even ask about modifying!

YEH I UNDERSAND WHAT YOUR SAYING BUT AT THE MIN I GET 30MPG OUT OF MY E30 325I SO AM USE TO ENDLESS FILLING UP AND THE SIGHT OF THE PETROL GAUAGE DROPING INFRONT OF MY EYES, BUT YOU ALL KNOW WHAT ITS LIKE WHEN YOU FIRST BORT YOUR SCOOBY (NO1 COULD TELL YOU ANY DIFFRENT)AND WITH THE WAY THINGS ARE GOING IN THE WORLD I THINK WE BETTER MAKE THE MOST OF ARE JUICE GUZZERLERS BEFORE THEY BECOME A THING OF THE PAST COZ ITS GOING TO HAPPEN ONE DAY. I DONT PLAN TO BE OUT OF WORK FOR LONG AS AM IN THE BUILDING TRADE SO AM USE TO THE FEW MONTHS OFF BETWEEN CONTRACTS. But once you get it, you will love it.

just checked out them websites you mentioned, and the more i look the more i want 1. i just sold my bmw so got more cash and in 45 mins iam going to look at a 96 uk 2l turbo with pro dive goodies so this could be the 1 and full scooby history, i got to keep in mind that there is loads more out there and not to have any impolsive thoughts but if the car is straight and its all how it should be id be silly not make an offer!!!!! any way il let you all know how i get on abit later

Ive seen high milage newage hatchbacks for a bit over your budget.
A really nice one went for £2600 on ebay recently, maybe because the bug eye version isnt as sought after so is best value.
Its a buyers market. I knocked a grand off the asking price of my 2001 WRX. sometimes people just need to sell.
