Hi Folks.

I have just bought my first Monaro and thought i would drop a little line to say 'hello'. I have bought the car only a few days having just sold a BMW Z4 Coupe which i loved to bits. I can already tell this car is going to be a very different ownership proposition, but i am looking forward to it alot.

The car was advertised on Pistonheads. Its an '04 plate CV8 in Red with an extensive list of mods, which is making the insurance a little challenging, even with 11 years N.C.B and only 3 points on my license. That said, its a necessary evil, so just got to grin and bear it i guess.

One quick question. The car does not have an owners manual, and although most of it is pretty self explaining, i can't work out how to result to trip clock when i fill the tank up so that i can clock the mileage on each tank. Could someone please frow some light on this?

Look forward to putting some pictures on here soon.

Ta ta, Mark.

Thanks. Mods, here goes....
-AP Racing big brake conversion front and rear.
-Monkfish handling package
-Ripshifter gearbox kit
-Harop diff
-De Fillipo exhaust manifolds
-Upgraded injectors
-Stainless custom built exhaust
There are others things but i can't remember now. Apparently with the mods, it should be knocking on the 400+bhp door now? Who knows, what i do know is that it is bloody quick and stops equally as quick!

Good list of stuff! Loads left to do tho if you so wish. Personally im far from qualified on the power levels although im sure many will point you in the right direction. How many miles are on the car?

Its sorted, panic over. I have managed to reset it now. Now i can work out how bad my MPG is.

I know this is a silly question, but is driven normally on a mixture of roads, what king of MPG can i expect?

Also, i thought the rear tyres were pretty small for a car pushing 333bhp as standard. My Z4 had 255 as standard on the rear. Do many owners upgrade to wider wheels and rubber or do the 235's surfice?

Most people run 245 or 255 tyres on the 19' alloys, not sure on the wheel width on the std 18' alloys. From what ive read its very difficult to fit wider wheels on the rear, arch mods are needed.

Just go for the best tyres you can!

Welcome, was it the red cv8 with black alloys on pistonheads? If so that should be quick, should be interesting to see what it runs on a 1/4 mile.

Thats the one! The owner was a top bloke as well. The mods were done by the person before him, so it'll be interesting to see how it goes.

Are 'Monkfish' a good source of parts for the Monaro?

Monkfish are good with servicing, modding, and parts. There is also RapidGB, Walkinshaw Performance, and Linden Special Vehicles, and approved Vauxhall dealers. There is also a breaker, who uses this forum, his username is raving, i think.

Welcome matesmile. As an 'Ro owner this is definitely the place to be. I've had mine for 3 weeks and it does 20 mpg,- with some "fresh" driving when traffic permits.

On the standard CV8 wheels (8Jx8" you can put 255/35 18" tyres on instead of the 235/40
If you get the 19"VXR alloys, you'll find you can swap the 245/35 for 265/30 (but your tyre fitter may swear at you).
Those sizes maintain the closest rolling radius to the original and won't foul the bodywork.
