In the UK, a child goes missing every 5 minutes

...or so says an advert I just saw. So over 100,000 children go missing every year? Is that true?
probably, 99,999 are found in aisle seven looking at the latest lego sets though.Sounds like a misprepresented statistic, "loose sight of timmy for 5 minutes", that'll be a lost child, "jemima wanders off at lego land to be found at the security office ten minutes later", lost child.. and so on and so forth.
It wouldn't surprise me to be honest. I don't think they mean how many are abducted, but there are plenty that "disappear". They're in The System but run away from their foster home and never show up. They arrive in the UK because their parents have sent them here for a better life with family and instead their "family" sell them in to prostitution which means that again, they drop off the radar. Plenty run away from home, end up on the streets, get involved with drugs.
Also, how do that statistic define "children". Is it everyone under 10? Under 16? Under 18? If you're under 18 you're not legally an adult but I'm willing to bet there are plenty of 15 and 16 year olds that are part of the red light district, here and abroad (all you need is a fake passport to get in to France and then you can be moved through the rest of Europe without any hassle, that's "progress" for you).
Not sure how many children there are in the UK, but when you start to count children that aren't British citizens you can see how it starts to add up.

Lots of 15/16 year olds run away from home, they would still be classed as children.
Lots?Really?
Some kids probably make a regular thing of it, I bet the number of 'missing kid reports' is greater than the total number of kids that went missing, if you see what i mean.
