Goodwood 15.8.'09 - the best yet
Discussion
I was at Goodwood on Saturday for a 98db track day. Due to my M3 being off the track at the moment pending a replacement motor I once again pressed my hastily and poorly prepared track dog, Fido, into action.
Fido is a 1992 BMW e36 325i saloon that I bought from ebay at the beginning of the month for £420. He has an LSD and 10 months MOT although the clutch release bearing was squealing like a stuck pig and did indeed give up the ghost half way through my first T/D that I attended in him only two days after I bought him! I have fitted an H&R anti roll bar and M3 front brakes/5.1 fluid so far but that is all. Oh yeah, I have sold the leather interior for £160 + another replacement interior so I am doing well so far
I was at Snetterton last Wednesday and that went well ( once the weather had cleared in the afternoon ) and was really looking forward to the Goodwood day being that it is my local track and I get on well with it and like the staff there too.
It was a ten car day and I was number nine. My friend Keith was number ten in his tidy 205 8V and although I have known him for a few years now and we always talk track whenever we meet, I have not been on track or even seen his car up until Saturday.
I was using up a set of nearly dead Michelin Cups and went relatively slowly on my first lap to get some heat into them. Halfway through my second lap and Keith was knocking on the door so I signaled, moved to the right, and let him past. Once past he did not seem to be going much quicker and I thought I may be able to hang with him and so turned up the wick a little. Not a good idea; I lost the back into St. Mary's and spun off going into the corn field and back out again, ears of piggin wheat every damn where ( I only had the windows open about 50mm )
The session was stopped and I had to wait for the recovery truck but did not need a tow and so drove back to the pits. I was given a friendly talking to and then I was back out on track.
Anyway, the upshot was that the day was under subscribed and as a result I got over 200mls of track time, wore my front tyres down to the canvas
and had a really great day
Sure enough Keith and I found ourselves out together latter in the day and once Fido had his head straight we were very well matched with the only noticeable deficit being that the Pug had just a little more grunt but I was breaking a bit latter so it was all but even. One of Keith's mates said he was doing 1.36/1.37 so I surmised that I could not have been far of off that myself, not bad for a near standard old ebay dog eh?

I saw you & your friend in that case, didn't realise you were PH'ers or I would have said hello.Did you see the Saywell collection and Atkinson's F1? Some amazing stuff there (I put some pics in South Coast forum).
I had my first track laps as a passenger in my friend's NSX, and it got me so hooked that as soon as I can confirm the day off I should be going to my first track day at Brands shortly!
Wanted to ask briefly how you heard about the day? I was due to meet a friend there anyway, but when I Googled to see if anything was happening nothing at all came up on any site. I was really impressed by how the day was run and how friendly and informal it was, would absolutely love a go round the circuit if they do another one.

If I had been there in Spot II you may have noticed 'GTWayne' emblazoned on the rear quarter lights touring car stylee
Yes, I saw it all, certainly not something you see every day that's for sure.
Yeah, we noticed the silver NSX in the pits with what looked like a water leak or something; hope all was OK?
I have a mate that works for Mithral and he told me about it whilst discussing an unrelated matter when I called him a few months ago. It is always like that whether it is a GRRC day or otherwise, it is my favourite track ( well, maybe second to Oulton Park ) and as I said above, the staff are great.
If you are there and see me again, by all means come and make yourself known, I will gladly take you round for some PAX laps if you wish

I will definitely say hello if you are there again (been told by Chris at Mithril 31st Oct, I should be there for that - black MR2
)
The NSX was fine, the water was just from condensation. That it was its first ever track day so was very pleased to be taken out.
If I'm there in Oct I hope to be driving, but yes please to PAX laps
If I am driving, I'd be keen to have a more experienced passenger too, so if you're up for that let me know.

I would be more than happy to have some PAX laps with you but I think you would be much better of making use of the instruction available, I have been on track at Godhood ten times now but will NEVER be anywhere near the skill level of John or Richard and you have the added bonus of getting proper tuition at no extra cost.
Yep, will get tuition also, but I feel you can never improve too much and having another pair of eyes in the car is always useful, especially as I would still be a relative newbie to tracks by then. I'm not too proud to be told what I can improve! If you hear of any other days could you give me a shout, especially like the one mentioned in another post here (5 cars, 105db) this Sat? Can't make this weekend but free most of Sept

Cheers!

Don't rely on me, I can't even organise myself. Just be vigilant and look on here regularly and TDO websites and you will spot what you are after soon enough, maybe you could even let me know if something local comes up?
Cheers!
