Wobbly Front Wheels

Hello

I had some movement in my front wheels so I replaced the wheel bearings however I still have this movement.

When jacked up if I hold the wheel top & bottom I can move the wheel on the hub and can see teh outer CV joint move.

This can't be normal can it?

Can anyone help?

probably streched hubs, so the whole bearing is moving in the hub carrier.


a common problem, always best to measure the hub where the bearing fits with a internal bore gauge before refitting bearings, sometimes the wear is so bad you can feel the wear with your fingernail

the bearings you fitted did the outer races just fall in or did you have to drive/press them in?

I have replaced all teh ball joints etc and yes I had to drive the outer races in as they were very tough.

I had the same problem and on very very close inspection, there were grooves worn in the CV shafts. A squillionth of an inch will allow you to clunk the wheel. It is irritating.

Hmm- one of the CV joints is new so I can't see that being it. I may try a new hub on this side and see where that takes me. Thanks

Assuming you have disk brakes it could well be the tapered washer that sits under the hub nut. These wear and lead to wobbly hubs and would be the first thing I changed. They are a cheap way of eliminating the fault as well.

Are you are sure the top and bottom ball joints are ok?

Hi, Yup. with the wheel off and hold the disc I can move the disc easily with the hub but and the ball joints aren't affected. Can't get my head around it!
