Apologies or the simplest of question but I can't find them on the web or on forums here (search doesn't seem to work today on PH?) - off to get a trolley jack in a mo and would like to know where best to lift the 280? I need to change the fuel pump pipe so assume I'll just need to lift it on the passenger side though I'm curious for future reference where I should be lifting the car.

Thanks in advance.

Be careful what you buy...you need a low trolly jack.
For the back I'd use the diff housing at the rear of the diff. On the front I use the thick cross memeber and put axel stands where the outriggers meet the main chassis. I wouldn't lift the car on the outriggers, it really needs to be somewhere nearer the middle. Cheers Steve

At the back I use the 'U' channel below the diff, rather than the diff itself.

At the front I use the point on either side where about 5 chassis tubes all meet which is about level with the back of the front wheelarch.

Don't forget to use axle stands too!

I use the same points - axel stands important always, but especially when jacking in the centre at the rear, it becomes quite wobbly! Especially don't forget to chock the front wheels when jacking up the rear - I learnt how to quickly drop a jack that day.... paperbag

I put a block of wood in the U channel behind the diff, or a slab of wood under the crossmember below the engine and jack centrally. Then put stands at the points where a cluster of tubes meet.

I agree that blocks of wood are best,...spread the load and don't damage the paint. smile
