All the same, I'd still probably want Ferrari to rebuild the engine. (probably saved a good 50 grand not getting it done by them though).

On a related note, I've heard of a few Enzo's having their engines replaced by Ferrari for free. It's not a particularly bullet proof motor. Let's see what happens when the 599 gets older.

Just out of interest when did these cars start to be worth so much money? A year or two ago there were "only" about £750,000 so how exactly have they jumped £250,000 in that time? Is it maybe sometjing to do with how the pound is against they Euro?

They became valued at a million on the same day that hell froze over and the pig began hovering outside my window. Its the same principle as always - a seller can ask whatever he wants for the car, its no more worth 10 million that one, but he could still ask for it. 750k will more than buy you a great car....from what I understand (from a main dealer and an independent), 675 is about the right price.

Actually, as I understand it, Ferrari themselves couldn't provide the level of service the owner needed, so the engine work was undertaken by his own company, where he could keep tabs on exactly what was happenning at all times. There's no technical reason why the work wouldn't be up to (perceived) Ferrari standards. IIRC, 'dealer' network service quality was the incentive he had to start Autofficina in the first place. Suffice to say it's not his primary source of income, but a very satisfying enterprise for a proper petrolhead and enthusiast - he genuinely cares first and foremost about doing a properly good job.

Anybody who knows Ferraris knows of Autofficina. Their quality of work is way above most franchised dealers.

Ignoring your patronising comment are they really that good and well regarded?

They aren't far from me at all so might try them out.
