Does anyone know of a Die-cast model of the BMW E36 M3 Evolution being made?

I have searched high and low but can't find one anywhere....

Thanks again

Thanks for that Jas, yeah ideally i'm looking for the standard Road car and if i had the luxuary to be REALLY specific, i'd like it in Estoril blue :-)

Several manafacturers have made the car in different scales in the past

Bburago - 1:24 scale

UT Models - 1:18 Scale

Minichamps also made the car in 1:43 scale , but the bad news is

Both the Minichamps and UT models are very hard to come by
Only Bburago made the car in the blue colour you are looking for.

The Bburago is ok on avaialability but you will be looking at paying the following roughly

Bburago - £5 - £15
Minichamps - £30 - £120
UT - £30 - £150

Hope thats any help

I'd say that is more like Avus blue... Don't think you'll find one in Estoril in 1:18. I've got an M3 E36 in Dakar Yellow (it's locked away at home, so I only get to look at it once every 6 months), so not sure whether its an evo. The GTRs are quite hard to come by, and is the only one missing out of my E36 collection apart from the 3er coupe (only available in Morea green - no thanks!).
UT and Maisto make E36s. It will be difficult to find them from any other brands IMO...

Specifically an Evo? Not as far as I know.
Widen it to e36 M3, & there are more options: 1/87 Herpa yellow coupe; 1/43 Minichamps, coupe in yellow, red, Avus blue, & Daytona; 1/24 Schabak yellow coupe, & 1/24 Revell kit, yellow coupe; 1/18 U/T (Minichamps) yellow, blue, coupe; yellow, black, blue convertable; white, German police saloon. For my the Bburago cars are't good enough, they're based on the GTR style shell, but the finish is a bit basic.
None of them current, but all pop up on eBay, etc, eventually. Really, the only obvious difference between an Evo, & the original would be the indicator colour, which you could adjust if you felt you wanted to.

Hello, I can help here. I have several models of the E36 M3 Evolution, some in Estoril Blue.

- 1:18 1996 M3 Evo made by UT models (pre-facelift grille, clear turn signals all round) – this was made in Estoril Blue and Dakar Yellow. I have both. You can find them on eBay fairly easily (try ebay.de if the .co.uk site doesn’t help)
- 1:18 1998 M3 Evo made by UT models (facelift grille, front turn signals but US-spec orange side and rear turn signals – this was made in Estoril Blue, Dakar Yellow and Techno Violet. I have the Dakar Yellow one and if you are very careful you can scrape the orange from the rear turn signal with an X-Acto knife and paint the side ones silver. With some care this will take maybe 20 minutes and on mine at least you cannot tell it from original.
- 1:43 Minichamps M3 Evo. Seriously rare. The 3.0 was made by Minichamps (orange turn signals) in red, black, avus blue and techno violet, and much rarer in Dakar Yellow available only from BMW dealers in about 1997. Much more recently BMW issued a Limited Edition M3 set with the E30 in silver, E46 Coupe in Phoenix Yellow, E46 Convertible in Laguna Seca blue, and the E36, with clear turn signals ie an Evo, in Estoril Blue.
This set is still for sale from BMW but it is 390 Euros. I was going to buy it but I already have the E46 cabrio in LS Blue, two E46 coupes and several E30 – the only one I wanted was the E36 Evo in Estoril Blue, and even though I really wanted it 390 Euros is a bit strong for one 1:43 car. SO I persevered, and I found and purchased an Estoril Blue 1:43 M3 Evo which had been separated from this set – so others may be available – my purchase is at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVer... and I paid only 55 Euros.

There is also an extremely rare 1:87 extra-detailed Estoril Blue M3 Evo with clear turn signals made by Herpa (they normally made only the 3.0) – it was made in about 1997 for the BMW M Club, and is a little gem, with printed M3 and BMW badges. I sold mine as I sold all of my 1:87 collection (concentrating on 1:43) and someone paid me about £30 for it on eBay. Pretty hard to find, and once again ebay.de is your best bet.

I hope this helps.

To clarify the post above, the 1:18 pre-facelift car is a coupe, and the 1:18 post-facelift car is a convertible. Both by UT models.

1:18 (pre-facelift car with clear turn signals foreground, post-facelift car with orange side and rear turn signals rear). Both are made by UT models. The 1:43 is a Minichamps special for BMW.

^^ - blimey, you win! eek - I didn't appreciate there were pre/post facelift models, as well! I'll have to root through the loft & see which I'm missing wink

(One day I hope to have a kind of "Russian Doll" display with the Dakar yellows - I've got 1/87, 1/43, 1/24, 1/18 coupes, + a 1/18 cab - maybe go for a 1/1 to finish, if I can find a good 'un wink )

Sounds good! I'm not some kind of complete model car nutter (well, maybe a bit!) but I used to have an unmodified Dakar '99 M3 cabrio and so when that was sold started buying all the small ones. Well done with all the scales of yellow M3s - I sold my 1:24 (rare one there - there is also an Estoril version of that which I forgot to put in the list) and 1:87, so now have the 2 1:18s and 2 1:43s in Dakar.

If you really hunt around you can find some specially converted other E36s made to an incredible standard in Germany in 1:43 - I've found (over the last 10 years) the M3 Evo saloon in Dakar yellow, a Dakar Evo Cabrio, the US spec M3 Lightweight from 1995 - white with the BMW colours on the corners and the GTR rear wing, and 4 Alpinas in Alpina blue with all the correct stripes and badging and correct Alpina wheels made by a professional model builder - a 4.6 Touring, 4.6 Coupe, and 3.0 Coupe and 3.2 Cabrio - incredible detail on these.

My view is that since so many people rate the E36 M3 so highly there will be new, better models made of it in the future (maybe by the Dutch company Neo which has launched really nice E34 and E39 M5s in the last year).

- me neither, but I get tempted...I've got the U/T white saloon, which I'm tempted to spray silver to match mine, but I just know I'll 4rse it up, sadly - so I won't. I think I've seen the Alpina 1/43s on a German site, as you say, beautiful but a bit rich for me. If I had one, maybe I could justify it to myself. I'm also hoping Neo will build some, they look like they do a proper job.

Gloves are off! I shall post photos of all the M3s in the next few days.

The thing about model cars is that they are generally made only of the very newest thing, or of a classic like say an E-Type. So something like an E36 M3 Evo is in between these categories can be hard to find!

Photos to follow (what have I let myself in for) !

It's been a busy week so sorry for the delay.
Here we have the 1:43 Minichamps Estoril Blue M3 Evo coupe from the set, and the specially made Evo Cabrio in Dakar (based on the Minichamps 325i cabrio with specially made bumpers casted by from the M3, a one-off professional build.

Not sure if anyone is following this thread any more but I've started so I'll finish ... and I now have pictures of the cars in a resolution that can be uploaded to PH.

First up, the 1:18 UT Evo Coupe and Convertible, showing the pre- (Coupe)and post facelift (Cabrio) grilles. Both Dakar.
