anyone had a banging from the rear?
Discussion
apologies for the thread title.
I have noticed on several occasions a loud low bang from the petrol tank area of my chim. Almost like a pressure release banging noise. At first I put it down to something in the boot but have had it on occasions when the boot is empty. Was wondering if their is compressed air in the petrol tank??
Anyone else had a similar problem (or quirk
)?

Petrol filler Cap? loosen it to the half way (notch) position.
See if that stops the banging.
You're absolutely right Al, I found that did the trick for mine to stop the banging noise
Good job too, cos prior to keeping the cap in the new "loose" position, I remember pulling up at the petrol station one day and the filler cap was so tight I couldn't undo it. Oh that looked soooooo cool...NOT!!!
Anyway all was not lost cos a nice young man offered to do it for me...*sigh* And don't twist what I've just said!!
We're talking cars, right

Yep, it's a well known "feature". You'll also notice that when you take the filler cap off to fill it up (strange that!), there is a whoosh of air.
'tis a bit disturbing the first few times you hear it!!
Steve
I had this from a very modified M3 and eventually it split the tank......please tell me this will not happen please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right
Roz, you may want to get your Breather checked! you should have the filler done up fully for safety reasons.
Not spillage of petrol if your car is bumped of knocked.
So next time you take it up to Austec, get the lads to check it out, the breather that is. Oh

Hi Big Al,
Where is the breather located? I've just started getting a loud bagging in mine too ...... quite startling???
Cheers
I think you're referring to the carbon cannister, through which the petrol tank vents. This link will give you more information - including a link to Steve Heath's Bible - the source of all useful knowledge and the meaning of life.
