As per title, Tertius posted this :

http://www.timefactors.com/precista.htm

.. and it's under 250 quid, therefore a bit too tempting to resist.

However I haven't fallen in love with the face on it, are there any alternatives in this price range ?

I doubt it, but if anyone has any suggestions.

I've just been accepted on TZUK, I guess it's linked with Timefactors ? I don't want to ask on there as I'll look a bit of a noob.

Thanks chaps.

Tertius posted this in response to my question - I'm after a watch with that movement in it myself smile But the Precista looks very much like my original CWC, so a different style would be nice (I could sell the CWC, I suppose).

Given that the movement is the Sea-Gull ST-19, which is the old Venus 175, the original Chinese Air Force watch would be very appropriate, IMO - I'm on the lookout for one of those. This is the idea, but that post was last updated in 2007 so it looks like the re-issue watches aren't made any more. Damn.

I've tried looking at the Werner's website but can't work out what's going on - I can only find Breitling homages, **huge** U-boat homages, and some quite frankly weird steampunk stuff. There must be some interesting pieces in there, but the 'hand-winders' page doesn't have any with the ST-19 movement that I can see. The position of the date window in many of the watches indicates a truly gargantuan size, so perhaps that's in fashion over at Werner's - but that's a bad call for me.

Anyone with better knowledge of the Werner's range?

I can't think of another handwind chrono, with a display back, in that price range that actually has an attractive movement. The Venus 175/ST-19 definitely stands out. I'm sure there are watches out there, I just don't know where.

As cyberface suggests try looking for the Chinese Air Force re-issues - there seem to be a number of variants and they are a bit different from the plain black PRS-5.

Aye, I agree about Werners, there was something I couldn't put my finger on and you're right, it's all a bit 'League of Extraordinary Gentlemen'. I wouldn't know if I had to wind the fecker or shovel coal into it.

I won an old clunker on the fleabay the other day :

....maybe I should wait for that to arrive before I go buying another watch.

I think I've cracked it.

After reading this :

http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=2258...

And seeing some better pictures here :

And seeing prices on the US (Not the EU) Seagull site :

http://www.usseagull.com/chronograph.htm

I think I'll be having one, unless there are any horror stories out there ...

I'm not bothered if it's totally Chinese, it's Chinese on the inside so why dress it up as a Swiss watch ?

I like this one :

... now I've seen it's 'smiley face' I can't unsee it !

It's much cheerier than the grumpy moonphase model.
