occassional warning light on then some time later off then poss 200mls back on wife says its either the abs or the air bag lights are these common niggles its a 96 car so not new.. just wanted some back ground before being arm and legged at jaguar garage cheers all yet again

Probably a cracked or damaged abs sensor wire on one of the wheels. A common problem. Have a good look at each one in turn. Am not a techie, but think you can check by putting a voltmeter accross each of the connections

I agree with Robo on this more than likely the ABS sensor loom from the hub to a connector on the inner wings.
I have some good secondhand if you are interested but I wouldn't of thought they cost much new and very simple to change
