Does anybody know what this dial switch does, which is under the yellow box on a pelican crossing?
Does it extend the crossing time for the pedestrian or does it speed up how quickly the change to red?

It spins round for the deaf people when the green man turns on to tell them to cross.

I didn't notice that when i was playing around with a couple, it felt like i was turning a motor of sorts, as in it's slightly hard to turn but continues to spin after turning. If you can understand the way i put that

So we've now decided that it's for deaf, dumb & blind kids to play mean pinball on, but it does spin round when the green man comes on and is strangely addictive as once you know it does it you can't help yourself but put your hand on it every time you use one (well I do anyway, does that make me strange?)

I once saw a police woman spinning one when she was in a hurry, obviously trying to get the lights changed quicker. Maybe she knew something we don't!
