I've just completed the brake upgrade on my 2004 Murcie to Gallardo/post 2005 Murcie spec. Can't believe the difference, it stops on a nail now. It additionally has race spec grooved discs not just standard Gallardo discs .This is an upgrade for the front axle only..
Personally I wouldnt go to these lengths/costs unless you use your car on the track or drive it a lot as it aint cheap!

The person who manufactured the parts required is Steve Tuckey at Mode Performance in Silverstone (01327 855700). Tell him you want the same upgrade as Simon George's/Andy Cummings Murcielago and he will know what you want..

This is the shopping list:

1 set Hemera/Roadster(Hercules) wheels £3000-£3500 Eurospares/Lamborghini direct.
1 set Gallardo callipers £500-£600 Eurospares/Lamborghini direct
1 pair mounting conversion brackets (mounting conversion brackets needed since the Gallardo callipers dont fit straight on - custom made by Mode Performance) and bells ££250 pair
1 pair race spec grooved Gallardo size discs (these also fit LP640/post 2005 Murcie) £1000
(pair)
Total : £5000/£5500 total inc wheels

Note - the discs Ive had fitted to the Murcie I also used to replace the LP640 original steel discs and they made a big difference to that - so simply fitting these to a post 2005 Murcie or Gallardo makes a big difference especially with Pagid blues pads.

Thanks for the post, just curious on the 2005 onwards Murci I noticed they had the same looking callipers are these identical ? if so do I have to have the Mounting Conversion brackets if so why did you have them made as they would have been of the shelf if they are needed was this to do with cost? sorry for the questioning it's only I am looking to do the same although I am currently having some wheels made to the same offset as the Hercules Wheels so I know they will accommodate the brake upgrade.

Also with the callipers did you PX ?

Have you changed the rears in annyway ?
TIA

Pagid blues pads.
would this bring about a worthwhile improvement on a 2007 gallardo when it's time to replace my discs ?

Mark

I'll come back to you tomorrow as to why you need the conversion brackets. There is a reason.
The original wheels cant be converted to fit. The reason is, the inside of the wheel isnt of such a shape as to accomodate the Gallardo calipers, whereas the later type wheels are more concave inside and allow it. I too thought that off the shelf parts would be fine but it just isnt that easy.
I didnt part ex the callipers just bought a new set and left the rear brakes alone.

- These new discs are in themselves a good upgrade on any Gallardo/post 2005 Murcie. LamboAndy has them fitted to his 2005 Gallardo and its a fair bit more bite now. The pagids have been fine on the Murcie but it does get more track use now than road

Great info.

Can someone tell me if there is a difference between the 2004 and 2005 Murcielago brakes?

2004 Poor
2005 Great

I believe the 2005 uses the Gallado Caliper whilst the 2002-2004 uses the rubbish smaller Caliper.

Simon,

Great work - you deserve a medal for services rendered to low cost Lamborghini ownership!

I will probably do this conversion over the winter.

My Murcie is going to need new rear discs at the next service - what can I do for the rear end?? Just a case of buying suitable rear discs (non OEM) or is there another option do you know?

Thanks!

Thanks to Simon's old original front and rear discs from SG54 as template,Tarox do the rear disc for the Murcie at £700+vat a pair....But you need to order them. As I don't track my car that much, I just went for the Tarox front discs with EBC red pads....not ideal but saves a big chuck of dosh compared to buying the original lambo ones at £1150+vat EACH!!!

It gets confusing here...if you use the Tarox discs you just get cheaper replacement discs than Lambo originals.. they don't really work much better than the originals either but are much cheaper..
If you go have a Gallardo or post 2005 Murcie then Mode's race discs will go straight on and be a cheaper option than Lambo's discs and work better too..

If you have a pre 2005 Murcie you need the full monte as described in the original post.

I have left the rear axle/brakes as original on my 2004 Murcie since the fronts do most of the work in any case

Simon as in another post of mine I am having trouble getting all the dimension for Hercules wheels Offset dimensions, Bore Size, etc as I am having some Carbon Wheels made and as it's the first Murcielago to have them we have nothing to go by and for obvious reason don't want to make any mistakes did you do any of these exercise before replacing the Calipers of do you know any of the information requested.... TIA your help is appreciated, as mentioned in another post of mine I have found some stuff on the web but nothing official and what I have found officially conflicts from what was already known.

Simon,

I already have the Hercules so for me its just the calipers and discs as well as the new mounts etc.

As for the rear - might it be jsut as easy to fit Tarox discs and leave well alone??? Do they do a cross drilled version or just grooved?

Wonder how big a job it is to but Gallardo calipers and discs on the back?

That's what I was thinking to change the front and backs, would look nicer as well as the rears would look alot different in comparison.
