Well, Saturday evening, having a BBQ, getting cold, chiminea burning but not too well. Put some lighter fluid on some sticks, put sticks in, sticks burn.
10 minutes later, much the same, walked past chiminea with fluid- about 8 feet away. Sides of container were buldging slightly, opened it ( with right hand strangely, despite being left handed)

Whole thing exploded. Shirt went up. Hair went up. Face went up.

I'm currently in Stoke mandeville, right arm knackered with no skin on it, face burnt, hair missing in places.
It really really fking hurts.

Not asking god sympathy- it was a stupid thing to do but thought I was far enough away.
So, be careful and listen to wellephant (matches, matches never touch, they can hurt you very much.
Can't post grim pictures as I'm on I phone, text me with an email I will post with pleasure

You won't do that again then will you!
All the best for a full and quick recovery BTW.

Ouch, that sounds bloody awful! I don't suppose you'll be doing that again in a hurry. I hope you make a complete recovery with no lasting damage.

What are the nurses like? wink

So sorry to hear the bad news, we all do or have done things that we shouldn't but there for the grace go some of us.

The worst bit unfortunately is yet to come if you have to have skin grafts, they really bloody hurt well mine did from the donor site, like a red hot knife, but at the moment I guess what you have hurts enough.

I wish you a speedy recovery.

Nasty, hope you recover without too much hurty.

If its any consolation, I know a fireman, of all people, who tried to revive a bbq with meths and set his nylon shorts alight. You probably wont suffer as much, or end up knows as Crispy Dick.

Oi, you, we blokes need scars. Puts the muggers off.

I refused to let the surgeon, who chopped the dodgy bit off my nose, tidy it up...

Makes me look hard.

I can go GRRRRRR as well...

When I was about 12, I decided to help Dad out by having a bonfire in the back field.
I tried to get it to burn, but the best I could get was a smouldering excuse for a fire.
So I went into the garage and got a can of petrol, and poured about half a litre of petrol into a pot.
I walked up to the fire, which was smouldering, and threw the petrol onto the fire!
Well, it literally blew up and threw me about 10 feet back, and I landed in a patch of stinging nettles with singed hair and eyebrows.

Petrol and naked flames are bad...MmmKay.

Bloody hell ... hope o/p makes a speedy recovery .. best of luck. As a kid, used to drain fuel oil out of central heating tank by the pint and lob it on the bonfire. Pause - woomph - big smokey yellow fire ball. Predictable and relatively safe. Has to boil before it burns. Petrol is a whole other beast. If it is in an open container it is already evaporating rapidly and you get puddles of vapour forming on the ground and flowing around. If that vapour hits a naked flame or is sparked ... game over, big F'ing fireball with you stood in the middle of it. Made that mistake once and was very lucky to get away with it. I wasn't holding the petrol container when the vapour went up. Never treated petrol casually again after that episode. (Still did stupid things with it ... just carefully.)

Get well soon! On the bright side, you should be in good hands - I was in Stoke Mandeville on Saturday having an operation and they were jolly good. Staff all very friendly and knowledgeable and wards all exceptionally clean. Nicest NHS hospital I've had the pleasure(?) of being treated in.
