It would appear that Ecclestone is still pushing for his much derided medal system. OK, so it would not do for everyone to think the same way and there is some logic for the person having the greatest number of wins to be the WDC. But his argument is based around Vettel's challenge for the title, seemingly suggesting that Button is dry and home. But what about Webber? <20 points behind with 7 races to go and Brawn suffering. It is by no means all over.

Quite common as people get older I gather, can't remember where I heard that (and I'm much younger than Ecclestone, come to think of it, even my Dad is younger than Ecclestone).I think he must have forgotten all about last years championship, or he missed it completely. And this year is beginning to get interesting but would be much less so with medals as the number of potential winners now on the track will probably make it hard for any individual to exceed JB's win total.
Could it be a last ditch attempt to have some input/control over the sports rules? With FOTA showing the FIA and Bernie that they will not stand for any BS and that they are united I'm sure it must feel to Bernie at least that he is losing control.
Also reminds me of New Labour tactics with ANPR/Blackbox car tracking technology. Tell people what might be happening to gauge interest and when you discover nobody is interested keep spoon feeding them reminders until they (we the people) give up and accept it!

Other than Button winning so many of the early races, it has been pretty much a free-for-all most of the time, so to suggest Vettel could win another 5, with Button on his tail for all of them is a stunner even by Bernie's standards!
I must confess; I do hope that the guy that wins the most races also wins on points...if only to stop Bernie 'declaring' a different champion!
It is worrying though that he is still banging this drum... If anything actually needs 'fixing' it may be the gap from win to 2nd and 3rd etc, but I actually think it would be an improvement to give points down to 10th - especially with the new teams next year - all the teams and their sponsors want to have something to show for their effort: Force India for instance could do with something for their efforts this year but not quite making into the 8...

All the WDC is is a way of keeping people interested in the sport. We don't have it, for instance, in tennis. But that's not to demean it. I consider myself to be a fan of the sport as a whole and I enjoy each and every race. I don't really follow a particular driver so you would think that the WDC is of no concern to me. I'm not even a particular fan of Hamilton but when watching the Brazil GP last year I was leaping about like an idiot. I remember working out that, with about five laps to go, LH had lost it and feeling quite down. I was hugging a mate of mine at the end (at the end of the race, not his end) yet I really like Massa. I felt really upset for him. So the WDC works.
If, as in the past, the WDC had been decided mid season then there was reason to change it. But the last two seasons, and many before it, have gone to the last race. So why mess with it?

I reckoned many years ago he was suffering from dementia. 99% of what he talks is BS. Unfortunately he is in an influential position but it seems that fewer "important" people are taking any notice of him. This latest piece is complete gibberish and shows a worrying lack of understanding of current form.

Why on earth would this shrivelled prune of a man single out Vettel, when in fact his team mate is now ahead of him on points! All reeks of him buttering someone or somewhere else up for another shot of lunacy.
Isnt it about time these 'significant figures' wound their necks in and let the sport take some of the limelight for being a sport instead of a political circus?

Agreed, Webber has outfinished Vettel 7 to 3 so far this season. I've always thought Webber was overrated but this season he's made Vettel look overrated. Bernie's fallen into the trap, he needs to take his Sanatogen more regularly.skinny said:
