Car-shopping for the other half and have a chance to buy a 2000MY Leon TDi 110 for £1,500. It's in excellent nick with FSH, but it's done starship miles (183k).

What sort of things should I be checking for at this mileage? Engine sounds tight and quiet and I wouldn't expect it to give any issues... VAG diesels are some of the best around. Are the gearboxes on these pretty bullet-proof?

I'm pretty savvy mechanically, so I know about all the usual stuff... just looking for some 1st-hand experience of this kind of mileage on a Leon TDi.

Cheers,
Ian.

I've got a Toledo (same car, but with a boot) which I've now done 90,000 miles in (bought at 40k), and it's still going strong.

The front suspension may well be clattery, but a new set of bushes should sort it.

The 1.9tdi seems very useful for intergalactic mileage !
