Hi All,

I recently bought a 2005 M5 with Bluetooth prep and can't get my new Blackberry 8900 to connect to it mad The garage I bought it from (BMW main dealer) have said that I can get a software update for the car, but they won't pay for it as it's 'sold as seen' and they had no idea which model of phone I had.

To a certain extent, I can see their point and they did throw in a new iPhone cradle for my other phone which works a treat (can't work out how to get my iPhone music to play through the car system though).

So, has anyone gone down this route, who did it and what was the cost?

Thanks,
NL

The iphone cradle is not connected to the music system. You need a separate ipod connection in the glovebox (to replace the CD changer).

The software update takes at least a day, so they are reluctant to do it, unless you have a warranty issue that requires it (a surprising number do).

My HTC connected very easily via bluetooth, quite surprised really.

Just out of interest, what sort of 'warranty issue' would require a software update?

Thanks,

I had mine updated becaus ethe clutch packed up, and surprisingly enough it didn't fix it.
then the gearbox packed up and that would have required it too.
I am guessing the red cog of death would almost certainly require a software update.

You will get a software update if you pay for the ipod installation. Mine's been done three times: for extended voice control (forgot to tick the box on the order form!), ipod and new clutch.

Tell them you've had some issues with the SatNav freezing and/or some lumpy gearchanges. Standard fare for getting BMW dealership to upgrade the iDrive S/W FoC.

This also helps the iPod phonebook display issues the early cars had.

My sat nav developed an intermittant fault (ahem) and the dealer then did an upgrade for free, iirc they said it would be around c700 quid if I had to pay.

It also took 2 days to do!

Sorry to hijack the thread however this has got me thinking. My Nokia E51 works fine with the bluetooth in the X5 (a 2008 car) but whilst it will connect to the M6 (a 2006 car) it won't transfer the phone book information to the car. Could this be because the X5 has the later software? Would a software upgrade in the M6 fix this?

Are your contacts saved to sim? I found the ones that were didn't show up.

My fathers '06 model pairs with his BB no problem at all.

Depends how much you want the BT to work? I'd buy a Parrot, at least then you can have both phones working at the same time handsfree!

There is a known problem with some Nokias not displaying contacts. There is a software update on the Nokia site to resolve I think.

I had this problem with my N95. I can't say if the update works because I gave in, bought an iphone and never looked back!

Ah they're all saved to SIM as well as to the phone. I'll try this.
