War with France and Spain!

not really.. but if the french and spanish one day decided to join forces and launch a surprise invasion on UK & Ireland, would we be able to react fast enough to fight them off? ( think germany vs poland )

or would we hold our own until the royal nave arrived to cut off the supply lines and hopefully turning the tide from this suprise attack. ( think USSR vs Finland )


or would olf winky just hit the "fk yeah" button and open a can on whupp-ass on all comers?

It depends on how the surprise attack worked. If they all got ready on the French side, then invaded en masse, then they wouldn't succeed.

If instead they came over in plain clothes on scheduled ferries with tanks etc in containers, with the state of our border controls they would stand a very good chance of getting away with it...although we would then have recourse to the NATO agreement and they would have to declare war on themselves - which let's face it the Spanish have got a bit of a history of doing.

not much worried about military action involving the Spanish. In fact, I'd prefer them to be on the 'other side' in any future war.

Spain doesn't have any nukes, our subs could destroy all their major cities before they even reached London.

France do have nukes, so we'd probably have to distract them with some cheese, wine and cigarettes first - then nuke them.

Spain tried to invade Ireland in the past, as did France. They thought they'd get local support against the English.
Neither invasion quite worked out.

or stick to the countrysides, in tanks and heavy armour.



as a civilian.. where would be the safest place to hide out.. near a military base, or as far away from everything as possible ( hopefully not in a field that the tanks blast through lol )

But Spain did do a good job of driving out the Moorish, which only took a few centuries - they weren't quite so good at stopping them when they started to invade though.

France and Spain have had a few battles themselves. I think one of the rare times France was invading and being successful England stepped in to help out the Spaniards.

As any QI viewer will know, the French have had more wins than losses. They army is adequate and larger than ours. UK forces are also engaged in two foreign wars. If you leave nukes out of it, I think France would do quite well in a sudden attack. Spain, not so much
