I'm glad to see that Canon have seen sense and abandoned the mega-pixel race with the new G11.

But is there a new SLR coming September 1st?

Well, that's the rumour and they need something to take on the d700. The 5d mkII is a great camera but lacks certain pro features that are only in the 1 series (weather sealing, a decent AF.) When Canon only had the D3 to worry about this was fine, but now there's the D700 Canon currently don't have an answer.

Going to have to road test the G11; looks like a fair upgrade on the G9. Glad they have stopped the mega pixel race and gone for dynamic range....

S90 looks HAWT.

10mp, 28-105 f2-4.9 lens, that lens control ring (customisable) looks good, small , sexy, a real winner I think.

Didn't you say the rumour was that a new Canon SLR camera was being launched this week?

The will have to be stunningly good to get me back from the Lumix range.

Will be worth a go... whilst I'm happy with a G9 as 2nd camera, I would like a wider angle by default. The multi position 4:3>16:9 appeals from the Panasonics, but the build quality of the G series is stunning.

We shall see.... either way I need a solid camera next summer for a long alpine trek, and my 40D is too heavy!

I may use this as a chance to swap down from the 450d I have - find the 450d brill but never enough time to take it everywhere or just "whip it out" as such.

Another satisfied G9 owner here. The G10 did nothing for me but I'm also looking forward to trying out the G11. As long as the build quality remains the same I'm happy to drop a few megapixels to gain better performance and a swivel screen like my old G3 had...
