Just wondering to clarrify a few bits for me smile

I have read the FAQ's and been reading lots on ls1gto.com...

I have attempted to contact a few regarded installers I know of, but they dont seem to be interested in emailing me back or answering the phone......

Soooooo

I have ordered a double din adapter.
A tool to remove the standard stereo.

From reading I understand the loom already has a ISO connector on it? (with the "usual" VX issue of swaping permanent and ingition live)
Do I need an ariel iso to din adapter?
I need to order one of those doofers from the states to retain steeringwheel button functionality or has there been another widget of late?

Greatfull for some reassurance/encouragement as I feel like im swimming in treacle lol!!

Yes, you need an aerial adapter, pretty sure I swapped the battery and ign on the radio lead instead, but cant remember. Took about 30 minutes start to finish.

Dear Vez,

I didn't need an aerial adapter, I also swapped the IGN/LIVE feed on the radio side - my Pioneer had a well marked short break-out cable with in line bullets and the ISO connector on the end.

One other thing to be aware of - you lose the radio display and clock in the dash, I assume it got this information from the stock radio in some way,

regards,
Jet

Probably sell the parrot on, I know the head unit wont be any where near as good as the parrot, but the roads will be safer smile

Having trouble figuring out if any of the Pioneer double din 7" touch panels have removable screens, favouring the JVC at the moment!!!!?

So just to confirm, im going to need an ISO to JVC 16 pin adaptor? If I go with the AVX820?!

I have read the installation instructions and they are a little vague at the least lol

Hi mate,

With the JVC units (well mine is 3 years old now but double din DVD) it should come with adjustable acc/constant power connection with bullet type sockets to allow you to switch both over. Otherwise you turn the key and the unit looses its memory.

Only thing you will need is the aerial adapter and other than that good to go. The Monaro has a normal ISO connector, you will of course loose steering wheel controls unless you bought the learning box to interface between the two.

Cheers
Steven

Well, its started, and its stopped. Everything was delivered, but the UK sourced Din adaptor was trhe wrong one! I was sent a single din adapter, after much phoning around gave up in the UK trying to source a replacement and ordered one from the states.

Dash was dismantled, parrot removed, Microphone wiring ran, and Origin cradle, GPS dongle and IR sensor removed.

Have now seen the ariel(s) plugs, and when putting the standard stereo back in these dont seem to have connected so presently have no radio!! Can anyone point me in the direction of the correct ariel adapter, is one for AM and one for FM?!

there is a bit in the FAQ's about what aerial is what smile and you can get a Y adaptor off fleebay to use both.

Y adaptor http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Antenna-Y-Adapter-Splitter-2...

you will also need 2 of these for the Y adaptor http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-ISO-Aerial-to-DIN-Radio-...

I didn't need an aerial adaptor - I guess by now though you will have seen whether the aerial connectors in the car match the ones on your stereo - mine plugged straight in (Alpine stereo).

Both aerial connectors in the car are the same but come from different points - so you may find that one gives better reception than the other. From memory I used the black one.

Snap - I just fitted a JVC 820 and struggled with the Double Din adaptor - it seems the only UK importer of Monaro adaptors has all singles bagged up as doubles - i had three attempts - i did eventually get a double din cover but no fixing brackets so had to 'modify' the original cage.

You dont need an ISO to JVC adaptor - you do need an Aerial adaptor, and you do need to swap the power cables around.

Here's mine finished - i had to move it back and forwards in the cage to get it to open properly - too far back and it catches the cover plate - too far foward and it looks a bit stuck on....

Let us know how it goes with the steering wheel interface - my PAC hadnt arrived when i fitted the stereo so still in a box - what i did notice is that the lead for the wheel controller looked bloody short right in the back of the dash...

I found I could pull the loom including the stereo control wire to the front of the original cage, so with everything removed, should be easy enough to wire up the pac unit, and theres loads of space to hide it all away under there smile There are femal plugs on various stero sits with some loom on them to make this easier, though im trying to minimise the crap load of wire!

Managed to remove the entire centre console for a full investigation, and refitted it better than it came from the factory!

The only thing that appears will take some time is running the USB cable to the arm rest cubby smile

Thanks everyone for your help its appreciated, I will prolly just use the black jack and a single adapter smile

The guide someone posted to the iPod Holden Stereo conversion for running the iPod cable might help you out running the USB.

Well its in, minus the SWI-Jack, thats on the agenda for next weekend.

Have to say its a nice unit, defo need the steering wheel controls though!

Simple interface, and sounds good, plays DVD's well, and presently sat with a USB memory stick for test purposes, going to try ipod on the way home smile Presently set to green to match the rest of the car, but I prefer the light blue background smile

Works hads free well with the iphone, but wont sync address book or dial from the head unit, which is fine because I wanted to remove the ability to make call in the car (just recieve) smile

I think the ipod will just be a test as I have bought a freecom USB memoery 120, which is a credit card sized hard drive, so should be more than enough to store my music collection and a few vids smile

To install it correctly I did find I had to strip the entire centre console and the hand brake surround, but no big deal, as said the only thing was to get the unit to fit right, looking at the photo above mine could sit a tiny bit further back but its boarderline smile

Ill reiterate a point, it REALLY needs the steering wheel controls, as there are few tactile buttons to press!!

Glad you got it all sorted mate. I've just got back from Autosparx having had my iPod cable relocated from the glovebox to the centre console cubby hole. Much happier in there. Half hour job, and cheap it was too.
