Is it just me....

We're constantly told the postal service is very inefficient. Modernisation is required etc. The fact my post doesn't arrive until 2pm would seem to indicate thats right.

Yet the unions seem as usual determined to screw over the post office with stupid demands that sites are kept open when they are not required etc.

Can't we just let it fold and sell the setup/rights to somebody who's shown they can do a reasonable job.

Really I guess what I'm saying is simply Unions just seem to be run by thick communists.

I'd love to see a piece of legislation say unions may only get involved in Health and Safety/working conditions disputes. And I guess things like unfair dismissal/sexual harrasment. But should be explicitly banned from being involved in pay and the general running of the business (e.g. opening/closing sites as required).

You mean have the unions make sensible, realistic and non-selfish demands?

Act with logic and intelligence?

Not bite the hand that feeds them?

Not be run by communist fkwits?

Don't be ridiculous.

From what I understand from people who work for the Royal Mail, people are trying to drag it into the 21st century and change has happened and is happening but bringing the unions into the same century as the rest of us is like trying to pull 100 wild horses with one hand. It will happen but slowly.

Also the service they offer is still pretty incredible for the price especially when you consider the UK government allowing foreign companies to enter the market when these companies respective governments would never let Royal Mail enter their home market.

I work for the Royal Mail and the way the union is operating is disgusting. I was asked to strike today without being balloted, when i asked the shop steward "what the fk is going on" he shrugged his shoulders. When I informed him that as I hadn't had a vote i would be in for work he blanked me. The problem is, most of the people in the CWU have never worked in the real world so they think they can hold the company to ransom. I know people complain about the service but, when it's finally sold off you will miss it. If we're lucky the CWU will fail this time and that will be the end of these dinosaurs, yes I am a member but only because it pisses them off.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Pay attention union people or you'll end up learning the hard way as the decent bits of the RM are subject to competition, you will be shown up for the inefficient shower that you are, and the universal service is all you're left with. To be clear this means loads of you will get fired. Get your act together NOW while you still have the chance to do so. Oh, and then a Tory government will abandon the universal service too making it commercially viable for other companies to compete there too. Then you're proper in it!

Surely when you accept a job you agree a salary (otherwise don't accept the job).

If during your life in that position you feel your remuneration is not what it should be, then re-negotiate with your employer.

If the position is in a fixed pay increase type of salary (e.g. the army etc), then you know this when you accept the job, so if you don't like that, again don't accept the job in the first place.

What is complex about this?? confused

I can understand the H&S aspect of it though...

Cheers
