I made a big mistake this weekend - usually the car is garaged and is never left out in the rain but on Saturday night the car was left out. The outcome was that there was no visable leeks but the driver footwell was soaking - carpet now dry and car back in the garage but I would like to find the source of the leak. has anybody experienced the same and or has this been covered in a previous thread?

Best advice is to get the bible (Steve Heath's "The TVR Griffith and Chimaera"). I was reading a section on leaks last night..... www.tvrbooks.co.uk

A very common place is on the top of the inner wing, the seal round the brake fluid reservoir.

good luck.

There have been loads of threads covering this in the past, "water ingress" and "footwell" should bring out quite a few of them.

Also try the seal around the clutch fluid reservoir, door seals, water proof the roof, etc etc.

Probably the infamous TVR Piss Fairy - comes in the dead of night and pisses in your TVR.

For a small consideration I'll exorcise it for you.

Apart from around the sealant Brake fluid cover and any grommets in the inner wing try looking at the door seal.
If you open the drivers door and look to the right as the rain comes down from the window it runs down teh seal then goes to the right. This point as it goes around is a bit suspect and the water can get behind the seal and then run down the inside of the car into the footwell. Try feeling the carpet for teh highest wet poit should give you an idea as well.

Thanks for your reply's, I will not have time to inspect the car until the weekend and will be back for help if I can not find the leak, additionally, a small amount of water has got beneath the head light covers is it worth replacing the seals if so how easy to get the seals and to fit?

had the water leak on my previous chimp, the drivers footwell filled up to the pedals overnight on a slightly inclined drive!souce of the leak was easily found, luckily, by peeling back the carpets and getting mrs mongoose to pour a kettle of water over the base of the windscreen, after first pooring it around the door.solution was a new screen(£50 excess on insurance)which was gauranteed for life from leaking/faulty fitting.hope this helps-mv
