Hi All

Just got my SE Turbo back after a 3 month engine rebuild, Have finished running it in and have noticed a big performance drop, The mechanic did say I may have to take it back for a tune but wondered what could be causing such a drop in power, Feels like im running about 220bph

Any ideas would be really appriciated

Alex,

You have an SE turbo with an GM ECU controlled engine management. If your mechanic thinks he can "tune" it up then he needs to be fully expert in the production of compatible 256K EPROMS for the ECU together with the binary file which defines the engine mapping etc.... I don't think so.....

He can check for leads hanging off, poor connectors, bad sensor, wastgate not set right etc...

What you really need to do is get a Freescan log to truely see what is wrong with your car.

See
Freescan Guidence Notes

If you can get a Freescan log file I will be happy to look at it for you.

I have a bad feeling it isn't going to be a poor connection all I can think of is a timing problem. By chance does anyone know if the SE can take increased boost on its standard fueling or will I need to re-map to increase the fueling

You can go 300hp or so with standard EFI.

So to break the illusive 300bhp mark is it possible to take it to a tuning company and get them to re-map my fueling or would I need to replace the standard ECU. Just wanna make sure that if I increase the turbo to 1 bar the car will fuel ok.

Dermot can I still purchase the cable from Andy's site?

Assuming the fuel pump, turbo, intercooler, injectors, and computer are working fine a rechip and some small tweaks are all that is needed like an upgraded exhaust changes.

Alex,

Andy Whittaker is no longer an Esprit owner, he is not developing freescan any more. People have found it very hard to get interface cables from him over the past year. I think he now has other priorities in his life.

I am in the process of getting a batch of interface cable made up with the proper GM ALDL connector. If you are interested email me directly.

Sorted my performance problems out. Was a problem with a split overflow hose for the chargecooler. I was throwing hot air into the turbo. So know it been cut and re-attached the performance is back with vengance. Thanks for all the suggestions tho. Was me not looking hard enough.
