What’s the difference, roughly, in replacement cost between the o/e Vauxhall item and the K&N replacement – and is it worth it (I’m assuming the K&N is pricier)?

i would say get an after market one.
I had greens filter before ..was good about 35quid

K&N would be pricier £50 ish on E-Bay delivered, but you only have to buy it once !! well worth the money, put one in my VXR and have seen about a 2mpg gain, a bit like Tesco's, every little helps !
