My mate has bought a 1993 micra 1.0 16v as a first car and it wont rev properly and does 65mph max, it sounds like its hitting a rev limiter but at probably no more than about 2500-3000rpm by the sound of it. Any ideas as he wants to go to wales tomorrow and wont make it up the hills at the minute! Thanks

Assuming it's not misfiring and things then my (very distant) guess is a blocked catalyst, or fuel pressure problem (fuel filter/tank?). Especially if the engine management light warning light isn't on and it otherwise drives alright, hard to know from your info. Neither of these especially easily fixable by tomorrow I'm afraid.

ive changed the plugs and leads for him as someone had told him that was probably the problem but its still doing it. It was doing it intermittantly as when i first had a look the car it decided to run fine and did over 65mph with ease but now its becoming more common. Should it have an engine management light on the dash because one doesnt come on with the ignition.

Not a cat in hell's chance it was ever plugs and leads. Always start by checking the basics - compression test, cam timing, ignition timing, fuel filter.

Think its sorted, found on a micra owners club in australia a guide to opening up the throttle body and to re solder the air flow meter plug joints as these go dry and can cause the problems hes had and more and its been fine and as far as im aware he made it to wales!

the good old bi-metallic strip in the throttle body/mass airflow sensor going tits up, my time at nissan we were replacing these on a weekly basis, buying one from nissan used to be hoofing expensive other option is to get a overhaulled part from a specialist
