I managed a very impressive 180 slide this weekend and smashed the front left side of my Boxster. Am wondering whether to make an insurance claim and suffer a big increase next year or fix the damage myself. Anyone had a similiar dilemma? The damage seems to be only front bumper, headlight and wing. Does anyone know a good repair bodyshop north london area?

How old is the Boxster? If fairly new I would go through Porsche purely for the warranty. Having said that though, I took my 993 to AFN to have the bumper resprayed and a parking dent taken out, and it was he biggest shambles I have ever seen in my entire life. A repair that was supposed to take a few days took 3 weeks! Phoned them after they had it for about 5 days and they said they were having problems removing the bolts on the bumper - what, they had been trying for 5 days?!?! On top of that when I got it back the paint on the bumper was sub-standard.

If older, I can hand on heart recommend Silver Wings in Park Royal - Unit 1, 2 Cullen Way, Park Royal, NW10 6JZ. - 0208 453 1300.

They repaired the rear wing on my 993 and the work was perfect. A friend of mine has taken his M cars there as well and was equally impressed with work. Looks like a really dodgy area / bodyshop when you get there, but when I was there they had all sorts in there - 996, Merc SL etc.

Plus they did it for about 30% of what Porsche quoted for it "cash deal" as well if you see what I mean.

Cheers
Eric

No recommendation, but if the headlight's gone the radiator won't be too happy either.

I hit a deer in my Boxster a month or so back - it's being repaired on the 5th Jan. Looked like a small dent on front wing - back also damaged bonnet, also needs new headlamp. The bumper and a few other panels will also be resprayed to match the rest of the car (they will have faded slightly apparently). Total cost of repair £3,050 !!! so is going on insurance - this has increased by about £35, though it would be a lot more if I maintained my protection on my NCB.

To maintain the Porsche bodywork guarantee you need to have the repairs done by a Porsche approved repaier with Porsche panels (if needed) - so if insurance is paying go this route.

Cheers,

Mike.

Note however, that a permanent record remains with Porsche and that does little for resale value!

Thanks for the advice. First estimates are for £2,000++ so reckon its an insurance job. I'm a bit concerned that the repairs will be kept on the Porsche computer....does anyone know if main dealers have access to work done by Porsche approved Body Repair centres?

Yet my OPC says there is not a permanent record kept by Porsche and that I have to produce my documents for them to verify before they will look at my complaint regarding a previous OPC repair.

I think they either tell us what they want in the hope we'll go away, or not all OPC's tell the same story???
