For years I've had cold sores manifesting on my mouth three or four times a year since I was 17- due to getting together with a girl with Herpes.
Oh how I suffered in this time whilst they blistered on my upper or lower lips when they 'bloomed' and, for years, the only solution was to rub Zovirax cream onto those pustules albeit after they'd established themselves.
There were times that my lower lip looked as if it had been bitten by a king cobra as two of these blisters would manifest themselves half an inch apart at the same time. Sometimes, they actually bled in unison!
In February last year, I asked a chemist's assistant for yet another tube of Zovirax. The chemist overheard me and asked if the infection occurred regularly. He then recommended Salvestrol tablets: http://www.salvestrol-capsules.co.uk/ Which I bought and duly took once a day.
Not only has a cold sore failed to appear (not even a 'tingle') since then but I have not caught a cold. No coughs, sneezing not even a drippy nose. This is very unusual as i've always been prone to head and chest colds- especially in the summer.
You can buy these packs (60 tablets) from Amazon or ebay for about £12 and they're well worth the money if you suffer cold sores. But, they also seem to stave off the common cold too..

Just a thought, but you tend to get cold sores when you're run down, which also heightens your chances of picking up anything else like a cold too. Maybe these just bump your immune system enough to fight everything off?

Most people carry the HSV virus. I suspect you may have contracted it as a child, as most people do, but it manifested at a later date. In cases as recurrent as yours I'd prescribe oral acyclovir tablets to use on a regular basis. These have been shown to reduce the risk of recurrence by over 50%. When the herbal remedies stop working, ask your GP to consider putting you on a long term course of oral medication.kenny Chim 4 said:

I'm glad the salvestrol seems to be having an effect on you. I've no real basis to doubt the effects of it, but then I don't think there's any basis to support them either, as there is no robust evidence, in the form of a randomised control trial, that shows this to be an effective intervention. Acyclovir, however, has plenty of evidence to suggest it's benefit. However, whilst it continues to work, use the Salvestrol. There'll be no harm in it, and there's always an option available to you, if it does stop being effective.So far, so good and therefore, I seriously hope not.

Contrary to some peoples belief, I'm not a baby-eating Muslim intent on world-domination (neither are most Muslims I know). Actually I'm a pretty reasonable guy, who is a doctor, and my primary concern is care for people, whoever they are and whatever their beliefs.
