e39 m5-getting bmw service history

I´m looking to buy an e39 M5 in the next couple of weeks

wondered if you could help...

1.

I´ve had trouble getting info about the cars from BMW. rang the garage that most stamps were from. Are they obliged to hand out this stuff? the people i spoke to allways made it sound like i was asking the earth Is there an easyer way?

2.

Anything not on Autotrader/PH i should be aware of? 9ish to spend.
