This used to be a great site… until the Pie and Piston was broken up into sections….

Now if you post a question in the lounge, you get a few answers until it’s moved to a sub section and then no one replies! Seems a backward step to me, and I don’t visit half as much as I used to as the variety of subjects are not in one place… and I cant be @rsed to go trawling through subsections….

So, are there any other sites you guys use that are like PistonHeads used to be?

This will probably be moderated to some obscure subsection… and no one will reply…

the new system did get on my nerves until they made the "group links" or whatever you will.

under "Gassing Station" the Pie and Piston heading takes you to an open view of all teh sub fora all in one.

I find that this works very nicely for me yet keeps the divide and conquer lot happy too.

Give it a try.

I hated the changes here at first but if you click on the "Pie and Piston" heading you will get all the topics in a single list just like the 'old' PH forum.
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/forumGroup.asp?...

There is still a problem with overall speed, though.
Also, the 'next page' function displays half of the previous page as well - which is very annoying.

But overall, I agree that PH is not as lively as it once was.
However, it's still better than the 'other' site.

I do like this feature, but it doesnt give you the "last visited" bookmark like the usual forums. So I need to remember where I last got to.

I think you will find that the "next page" problem is to do with thread updates from when you first viewed the page.

I think it works very well. Maybe not everyone is aware of the functionality...

It gives the advantage of being able to see everything (like you used to be able to under P&P) or just looking at specific topics that interest you.

I hated the changes at first as well. I still don't like them (much) but have learned to live with them. I've tailored the site to suit my own needs which has helped a lot.

I still get annoyed when threads get moved or turn up in places a "reasonable" person would never expect them to be.

Ooh. I like that! That's actually much better than it was before! smile

Before I had the choice of what's new on all my favourites, which tended to be very heavy on General Gassing which I only dip into occasionally, or just each individual forum. Now I can see all the old P&P stuff and Photography and Pedal Powered all in one place, without lots of General Gassing.

I know I shouldn't be bringing this up again but .. so people can just about live with it by trying to make it as near as possible to the old site .. what was gained by the changes?

This is gained IMHO:

Glad you stuck around Eric! I think the site funcionality can be tailored to meet pretty much most people's tastes - I for one just look at "Whats new" to see what has been going on.
