Ok another weird problem… I have just had my aircon repaired at great expense by my local nice but dim mechanics. Condensor.. pipes, seals and regas. Etc… everything was ice cold and working fine.

I was pulling out of my drive and my wife noticed a puddle of water under the car. I thought it was the rad leaking or I was losing coolant. I checked and the car was fine! No coolant loss and the water on the floor wasn’t coolant.

However, when I started the car up and then turned the aircon on a steady drip of water is coming from underneath the middle part of the car. If you imagine where the hand brake sits… roughly that position under the floor. So this doesn’t seem like it coming from any of the parts the mechanics replaced or touched.

Does anyone have a clue why this drip of water is coming from the car when I turn the aircon on? A pipe or some matrix or something?

Its been really hot lately and the little ones need a cool car.

Are you taking the piss?

Just in case you aren't, and at the risk of being caught here, of course there is a steady drip from the aircon!

When the air is cooled, it's capacity to hold water drops and water condenses out and is drained away to drip under the car.

Anyway, if you were being facetious, you got me!! wink

I wish I was taking the piss... we are talking a lot of water.. enough cause a large puddle and that doesn't seem normal to me.

Seriously I have never had anything like this on any of the BMW's I have owned or any car with climate control.

Should I just ignore it?

Recently serviced aircon workign more effectively.
As long as it continues to work you've nothing to worry about ?
My car leaves a puddle too - so much so that within 5 mins of stopping (for example for fuel) you can see a puddle

On the really hot moist days about 6 weeks+ ago my car left a fairly big wet patch under the car, probably 30cm across...
You could even see it dripping fairly quickly when stopped, from around under my handbrake.

Had a quick look and it just seems to run back on the sub-frame/bulkhead from the air-con drain pipe, and then drip down off the lowest point near the exhaust under the handbrake.

I noticed a similar thing when I had my aircon serviced on the 740iL on a particluarly hot day. I guessed what it was but was surpirsed the qunatity of water as well. You obviously suffer from car paranoia like myself.

Yup.. thats me. I just like to take care of my car and try not to damage it further if something is wrong.

I just saw this lake under the car after the wife pointed it out. Yikes.

Still if you never ask then you'll never know.

Cheers.

Fair enough wink. As said, the better the AC works and the hotter the weather, the more water!!!
