Can anyone help?

After a chalet or log cabin, preferably UK, nothing too flash (although a hot tub would be ace hehe)

Budget about £1k for a week, maybe 4 nights?

Basically want to go away in February, take a sledge, build some snowmen, have a snowball fight etc.

6 adults, 2 children.

Would love some ideas, as i'm really not sure how much snow is likely to be in Scotland, but we need to drive there (a friend is terrified of flying)

Thanks in advance..

I'd be mighty impressed if you managed to book somewhere in the UK, and it actually snows that week. Let alone enough snow to sledge and build snow men.

Drive to the alps.

I thought if we could find somewhere high, the snow would probably be there?

Alps are likely to be expensive non?

Not worried about skiing, so if anyone knows of anywhere off the beaten track, not next to a slope, please let me know.

February - check dates of half term (prices double)

Can recommend SkiBeat and Snowline VIP very highly - been with both a few times.

Oh and check Marcellus - he has a chalet.

you wouldn't have to drive all the way to the alps... you could stop at the Jura mountains or the area near Millau too (inbetween Millau and Lyon).. thing is your budget would be eaten by crossings and fuel!

I don't fly so always drive to the alps for skiing. Couple of years ago a group of us hired a chalet in Morgins, just into Switzerland. Did the drive down over a day and a half with an overnight in Reims, but you could do it in a day with driver changes.

Think the chalet there cost us £560 for the week and it was for 8 people. No hot tub, but it did have a nice veranda and plenty of snow around it.

I have just re-read the post and apparently he does not want to ski.

I would suggest avoiding a ski resort might be the answer for him.

If you want the UK, http://www.piperdam.com/ in Dundee has lodges of various sizes with hot tubs, worth checking out prices. Not going to be much snow in the area, but if you want to go skiing you have either Glen Coe or Aviemore about 2 hours drive from Dundee

I've been driving to the Alps for over 10 years, usually 2-3 times a year, and it's an easy one-hit run if you have 2 drivers and stay away from the very peak periods.

What you want to do is Drive/Fly to Villars in the Swis alps, and stay in a white pod...

They are heated, have very nice beds etc inside..... and you cant get any closer to the snow!!!!
