Factory car stoppage at The Ring.....The FACTS

OK,

I have contacted Richard at the factory, and I asked him directly, about the car stoppage at Steilstrecke.

This is what he told me:-

[i]"Yes it is true that our GTR720 leaked water out and therefore parked up waiting for recovery at Steilstrecke last year. However this was during public Ring testing when we were proven to be on target for a sub 6mins50secs laptime , it wasn't during the official lap record day when the track was officially closed off to the public to enable a full official timed lap to be accomplished. Unfortunately this is the day it rained heavily forcing the lap record attempt to be abandoned despite our pleas and bargaining with the organisers to run the car on the following days

The engine wasn't damaged in any shape or form as the car was parked up at Streilstrecke in plenty of time, the fan belt had simply fallen off creating excess water temperature causing the water fluid loss, caused by a trapped stone in the belt we believe. We got the car up and running again perfectly within 10 minutes.

When all said and done excuses are worthless on all counts, it's the official laptime that does the talking and you make your own luck, congrats to both Gumpert and Radical for achieving stonking official lap times"[/i]

Good! I'm glad to hear that it wasn't anything worse. I hope they go back soon. PLEASE! Beeting Apollo would for sure rise the value of our cars if nothing else.

BTW "the fan belt fell off". Now I'm confused. Do you guys use a fan belt? How is that possible? Do they have fans mounted in the rear that can be driven by a belt?!?

He means the accessory drive belt at the front of the engine. In the old days it also would have driven a viscous fan.

i think the quest for the fastest lap on the ring is just ridiculous, the gumpert > 300k, the radical, a questionable road legal car ????, the porker and gtr laps with factory support of questionalbe ecu tuning.............................bottom line the ultima is in its price/performance ratio the winner without even going for the fastest lap......if richard and ted would tweak a gtr they sure could achieve a similar fast lap as the radical, but sequential gear box and no roof, what car is that ?
i would not want one, my today test drive was really nice, and the clutch was nice, the gear box just ok, but the overall performance very much like a daily drive and that is what makes all the difference.
sure i would feel very ok when an utltima would clock the fastest lap but the hell i do not really need that.
The feeling that i built a fast car like this myself will never be something that can compare to the fastest lap on the ring, which in my view has just got too much attention.

I agree regarding the Radical. In my book it's not a car even if they drive it around the globe. You can drive a Super Cart on the high way but it doesn't make it a car.
