VXR8 Running In
Discussion
0 seconds after warmup is sufficient.
You need to bed things in nicely. Though engines these days are pretty good.
Personally Id hammer it.

Is there a running in period for these cars?
yes about 10 minutes or so to let the oil get above 75 degreesRunning in guidelines for a new car are in handbook, I think it states not to go above 80mph for first 600 miles.
The diff and gearbox are both tight and need a few hundred miles to bed in - the suggestion to hoof it from the off is fine if you want to cause premature wear.

Depends on how long you want to keep it. I was told years ago that if you wanted a fast engine then you had to thrash it from new. I told this tale to a mate a number of years ago when the old 4 cylinder Suzuki 500's were new. He said he had bought one and run it in carefully. It was nowhere near as quick as his mates, who had thrashed it from day one. My old boss in the motorcycle shop always said that an engine is fastest just before it tips over the edge into starting to wear out. Personally I have always thought that this makes sense, so that both will eventually be a fast as each other, just that the thrashed one reaches the optimum stage first due to premature wear.
I ran mine in carefully for the first 500 miles then started to stretch it to maximum. I propose keeping mine, so we will have to see if the theory works.

There's thrashing and then there is thrashing.
The oil must be up to temp (running in or not).
Revs are fine - in fact you need high revs to make sure all the different aspects are worn in properly.
You don't want to load the engine - so low revs/high gear or full throttle is really not great.
