Super-Connie, Rome NY to Seattle WA
Discussion
Firstly, I need to point out that I'm a complete numpty when it comes to aircraft, but I do like a good yarn. I received an email earlier this week from a friend I see but once a year, for the monumental piss-up that is The 12 Hours of Sebring. The guy who sent it to me is a recently retired air traffic controller and a true gentleman.
He's been invited along to help move this aircraft to it's new home at Boeing's museum in Seattle.
Looks like a bit of an adventure.... In part, he said,
"The Connie has been completely restored and is being loaded onto trunks as this is being written. ***** (Skipper Shippers, Jensen Beach FL) has been contracted to haul this aircraft from RME to SEA (Rome NY Griffis to Seattle WA) so the aircraft can then be reassembled to be placed in the Boeing Museum. Our trip will take the better part of the month. As I am only a small cog in this whole mechanism, I cannot say exactly where we will be travelling (permits) or when we will be travelling thru or what part of the country- I just don't know. What I do know is that this really is the trip of a lifetime, considering the time of year and the other factors.*****and I will most likely make our way home with a few stops along the way, checking out the fishing and kayaking in the mountains.
We will be departing RME on Monday 8/24. Our trip will take the better part of 4 weeks. I will try to keep you all updated on our progress across the US thru emails and fotos. For those along the route-I hope we can share some time together however please understand that schedules, permits, etc dictate our route and/or time and stops. If you happen to see us in a local newspaper or whatever- please send it on to me. For my NATCA Brothers and Sisters- if you can pass this on to those facilities along the way- I truly believe there is alot to be gained by letting those folks in the trenches know that there is something beyond retirement besides taking a dirt nap."

It's a fascinating story.
