Hello all!
I'm off to Lefkas in September, staying just north of Nidri. Was wondering if anyone has been and has any tips on where or where not to visit! Ive heard Nidri isnt the nicest part of the island, but dont mind driving around a bit during the day as I'll have a hire car!
Over to you!
Thanks.

The first holiday Mrs Philthy and I had was in Nidri.
We loved it. There were plenty of good restaurants about, and plenty to do, particularly if you have transport. One of our favourites, was hiring a motor boat, and snorkelling/sunbathing. The island that was owned by Aristotle Onassis, Skorpios, is a short way off Nidri, and was fun snorkelling and swimming off.
We made some good friends there, probably because I speak a little Greek, and they contacted us after we got home to tell us about the earthquake that hit them 2 days after we left
We would go back.

Been a long time since I was there, and yes Nidri isnt fantastic. As said Vassiliki on the southern tip has a nice beach. One thing I would recomend is a boat trip to an island (cant remember the name) which isnt far from the Onasis island mentioned above. (just checked multimap and cant even get the name of this island from that) Lovely village on a hill overlooking the small 'harbour', great for a wander and then perhaps a stop in a taverna. Boats run over there from Nidri (well they used to anyway).
I was learning to sail while I was there, then on 2nd week lived aboard a yacht and sailed round the islands so didnt explore Levkas much.

Nidri looks awful, go the extra few miles down to Vassiliki to get away from the elbow-to-elbow beaches, you also get some of the best windsurfing conditions in the world (so I'm told).
I had a wind-surfing holiday on Vassiliki many years ago - was great....and can confirm it has 'some of the best wind-surfing conditions in the world.'We're in Vass again in two weeks (our 4th visit in 6 years). We are kinda keen on the place! A quiet, proper Greek town with a harbour and a few good eateries. Other places to visit are Porto Katsiki and Egremni (beaches to die for), Agios Nikitas for the surf, and Sivota (idyllic was invented there).
The only reason to go to Nidri is for abundant cashpoints, and to hire a boat to go 'round Skorpios and Megannissi. Oh, and Nidri Falls are very pretty as well. Otherwise avoid.
If you're in the vicinity of Vassiliki between the 6th & 20th of September, call in at The Vass Bar and ask Yanni to point us out (Simon & Lois).
