I'm searching frantically for a power steering rack but to no avial. Can any recommend a source, I'm looking at buying one outright or exchanging mine for a reconditioned one. Any recommendations please? Plus can somebody give me a rough idea of price?
Thanks in advance

They are a bit like rocking horse Dropping's...
Bell Hill or Douglas Valley are your usual suspects for supply from a breakers yard but, both will only supply as a full kit (ie pump, pipes etc) and the rack will be a reconditioned one (when they have them, which is rarely). Your best bet is to keep trawling PH classifieds and fleebay they do come up from time to time, but be prepared to wait upto 12 months for one to come up (i did frown )

This one recently came up on fleebay;

There was also more than one type dependent on year.

I'm not sure if they're interchangeable, anyone know for sure?

I heard the rack to chassis mounting differed.

Your best bet is having yours reconditioned. About £200

Hi,

I faced the same dilema.
I got my rack reconiditoned - something like 150 door to door 3 day service.

There was a story in Aprils sprint saying that the TVR worker who built the factory racks is now supplying new ones.

Not sure if anyone has used him yet? COst is about £899 for a brand new rack or they offer rebuilds in house too, no idea of cost or service.

If you are looking at other places to rebuild your rack, feel free to ask me who in my opinion NOT to use! biggrin

Thats very useful info Timja, hadn't spotted that in Sprint...Factory used to charge £1400 quid for a new rack frown also didn't spot that the OP already had a PAS rack, so this contact may be his best course of action, as your just don't know what you are getting when you buy 2nd hand.

Reviving this old thread - where is considered best to get a PAS rack reconditioned nowadays? I recollect a few threads where people's racks had failed after being reconditioned so I know there are a possible few rouge outlets out there. I already have the rack off the car so don't need to worry about removal, just refurb.

There is one in the Greenwich area that I would not touch with a ten foot barge pole, a few of the guys on here have found out the hard way.

Following Del's lead, I've been in touch with Kiley-Clinton, Birmingham, who seem to be on the ball. I'll probably send the rack up there and get them to look it over unless anyone else has any other good ideas?

This touches a nerve as I bought my PS rack from the poster 4 above and it was knackered.

I also took it to the one in Grenwich who were useless.

I still have play in it, fecker frown

The Greenwich firm who do Power Steering Services and the guy who owns it are a bunch of incompetent @?"£&s

After several failed attempts to fix my rack - once only lasting 2 weeks before failing quite spectacularly, I ended up taking them to court, unfortunately the legal system failed me as at the preliminary hearing the judge said I was sueing the correct person, at the main hearing a different judge decided i wasn't and should have sued the garage that fitted it and the garage that fitted it should have sued them even though on 2 occasions i had dealt directly with them.... At least i wasted 2 of Mr Elahi's days...

I also used another (Western) company and that only lasted 1 year.

After reviews on here I used KC, i would only suggest to use Kiley Clinton, rack has lasted with them and they actually machined something to fix the problem properly.

Yes I think KC are reputable.

I sent them my rack that I purchased from PH classified to see if they could eliminate the play, they stripped, inspected, charged me a reasonable fee for that but unfortunately couldn't carry out the repair!

Caveat emptor and all that.

I do have a spare P/S rack.................that's got a bit of play in as well!
