I occasionally have to meet a friend with kids for lunch and Kenilworth is easy for us both to meet, but we don't know the area that well.

It's quite apparent that there's loads of nice restaurants and we've tried a few, but what I'd really love to find is an informal cafe that does fry ups,i.e. a greasy spoon. Or I'd settle for a lower end place that isn't a pizza/pasta place, a Costa Coffee or a sandwich shop/Subway (I can't do bread/pasta/wheat). Even somewhere that does takeaway salads might do if the weather's good enough to eat in the park.

Just outside of Town...
Come off the A46 for Stoneleigh and turn towards Kenilworth (left if coming from M40 way, right if coming from Cov); at the island, turn right - there is a farm on your left that has a cafe that does breakfasts

In Kenilworth - in the main area (which is the Warwick Road)
The Rocking Horse is in Talisman Square (best breakfast)
Escape is in the row of shops by the Clock Tower (sausages are crap which is a shame as next door but one is a 'proper' butcher with excellent sausages!)
The Green Man (up towards Warwick) will only let children sit outside

There is a SHE bar that does food in the same building as Ask (but in Station Road round the corner off the Warwick Road) that looks like it does good breakfasts - not tried it yet tho!

I can't remember if the Bear (next to Sainsbury's) lets kids in, but the food is good (don't be put off by the outside!)

Waitrose & Sainsburys do takeaways salads etc

By the Castle
The Queen & Castle (opposite the Castle) is child friendly (has a play area too!) and being a Beefeater (albeit a decent one hehe) a wide menu.
The Clarendon Arms (at the bottom of the High Street) does good food - not sure about kids policy
The Virgins & Castle (at the top of the High Street) does food & has a garden (again not sure about kids)

Then there is (although not much use to you wink)
Subway in the row of shops by the Clock Tower
Costa Coffee in Talisman Square
Starbucks in the Holiday Inn (by the Clock Tower)

I think that is it...

The White Lion - avoid!
The Earl Clarendon - ditto!

Cheers - that a pretty comprehensive list! Maybe we'll try that farm shop first :0)

... Do you mean the island with the garage in it, by the way?

No, not that island, you want the next junction - for Stonleigh.
